EPA Region 6 is pleased to join EPA headquarters, other federal agencies, businesses, and communities throughout the country in observing September 15 – October 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month
U.S. EPA South Central Regional Office Serving Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas.
EPA's purpose is to ensure that:
- all Americans are protected from significant risks to human health and the environment where they live, learn and work;
- national efforts to reduce environmental risk are based on the best available scientific information;
- federal laws protecting human health and the environment are enforced fairly and effectively;
- environmental protection is an integral
consideration in U.S. policies concerning natural resources, human health, economic growth, energy, transportation, agriculture, industry, and international trade, and these factors are similarly considered in establishing environmental policy;
- all parts of society -- communities, individuals, businesses, and state, local and tribal governments -- have access to accurate information sufficient to effectively participate in managing human health and environmental risks;
- environmental protection contributes to making our communities and ecosystems diverse, sustainable and economically productive; and
- the United States plays a leadership role in working with other nations to protect the global environment.

Regional Administrator, Dr. Nance, attended the 4 State Regional Coordinator’s meeting in Laredo, TX to prepare for the upcoming Border 2025 National Coordinators Leadership meeting where they will outline the completion of goals and objectives for the remaining 2 ½ years remaining for the Border 2025 program.
We’re hosting a Border 2025 Air Policy Workgroup public meeting on WED 27 SEP at 12PM CT. During this meeting, we’ll provide an update on recent work to support and advance the Border 2025 Program’s goal of reducing air pollution. Region 6 Brian Dye recently returned from Kazakhstan where he worked through an Embassy Science Fellowship at the invitation of the U.S. Department of State

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced that the Louisiana based company, Limitless Vistas Inc (LVI) will receive $500,000 in grants funded through President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for environmental job training programs.
the Safe Drinking Water Act was 🖊️signed! authorizes the EPA to set national health-based standards for drinking water to protect against both naturally-occurring and man-made contaminants that may be found in . Dredging at our project site in Louisiana is complete! The new sediment is draining excess water.
Next step? Planting native species in the spring that will thrive in the new marsh and help hold the sediment in place!

Construction of the remedy at a portion of the San Jacinto River Waste Pits site in Harris County has begun. The work involves excavation and off-site disposal of dioxin-containing wastes from the portion of the site.
