An elf has been sneaking around the department.

Detective Long came into work the other day and apparently the elf has finally decided to introduce herself.

Cadet Kelly added a touch of “mug”ic to the detective's portrait – who knew coloring outside the lines could be a crime-fighting skill?

••Anna Police - K9 Miki tracks and locates suspect••

This morning, Anna Police assisted the Van Alstyne Police Department in a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle. In Van Alstyne, the suspect fled on foot and K-9 Handler Officer Davis deployed K-9 Miki to track the suspect last seen running west near Muncy Road in Gunter.

K-9 Miki tracked the suspect approximately 1.6 miles through ravines, across a dam, fields and various tree lines until the suspect was located. Upon seeing the dog, the suspect surrendered without incident.

Remember as you prepare to shop online during holiday sales that porch pirates are getting ready too.

Porch pirates are thieves who steal delivered packages from other people’s porches.
Try these tips to keep your packages safe:
• Have packages delivered to your workplace, if possible.
• Have packages delivered to a neighbor or family member who will be there to accept them.
• Make sure you have the tracking information for your packages and monitor it. If your packages do not arrive as scheduled, contact the sender immediately.
• If available, request a signature delivery option. This will require the delivery driver to obtain a signature or deliver the package at another time.
• Request a specific drop-off time and date from carrier, if possible.
• Arrange to have your packages held at the delivery service site for pick up.
• Ask the delivery service to leave your packages by the side/back door or enclosed porch where packages are out of sight.

10/03/2023

The federal government will conduct a nationwide test of the emergency alert system on Wednesday afternoon at approximately 1:20 p.m. (CST).

The test messages will be sent to all cellphones, televisions and radios. The test will emit sound and — on phones — vibration.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Communications Commission are running the test in preparation for actual emergencies. The aim of the test is to ensure the emergency messaging system is running smoothly in the event Americans are threatened by natural disasters, terrorism or other dangers to public safety.

You may be familiar with the jolting sounds accompanying National Weather Service alerts and AMBER (America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response) alerts. Wednesday's cellphone alerts will be sent via the same wireless system.

(Credit: NPR)

📞🚨 FYI: If a phone is off before the test alert is sent and not turned back on until after the WEA Test expires (approximately 30 minutes), the phone should not get the test message.

We're always seeking more ways to provide better care to our community! Recently, we placed four new Lifepak CR2 Automatic External Defibrillator’s (AED’s) into service.

According to the American Heart Association, more than 360,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of a hospital in the United States each year. A quick response with life-saving measures like CPR and the use of an AED greatly improve a patients chance of survival.

These advanced semi-automatic AED systems allow our first responders to quickly and accurately access a patients needs and deliver life-saving care to adults and children in cardiac arrest. Additionally, the AED have WiFi capability which can easily transfer data from the device to other first responders and hospital personnel to ensure continuity of care.

On October 23, 2021 officers responded to a major accident at White/Buffalo Bill and found the driver of one of the vehicles deceased. The police officers and detectives worked together to investigate the crime thoroughly. They found that the driver of the other vehicle, Brandon McCalister, was speeding on White and caused the accident. Mr. McCalister was later charged with Manslaughter.

On September 15, 2023, he was convicted in Collin County District Court with Manslaughter.

We appreciate the patrol officers who responded to this call. We thank the Criminal Investigations Division and Traffic Accident Investigators for their thorough investigation. We also want to thank the Collin County Criminal District Attorney's Office for their partnership in bringing this case to trial and securing a conviction.

Update on our previous post on Sept. 13 and the second suspect that remained at large:

Our investigation led to new information about the car used by the suspect in the vehicle break-ins on Sept. 12.

We entered the license plate into the Flock Automated License Plate Reader system. Patrol located the vehicle after one of the Flock cameras received a hit. The officers found and arrested the suspect, without any problems.

The suspect was charged with multiple crimes, including vehicle burglaries, stolen fi****ms possession, felony drug possession, and an unrelated warrant for Aggravated Robbery.

Please remember to remove valuables and lock your car. Take, Lock, Hide.
