Bergeson, Collaborators Developing Novel Treatment for Alcohol Use Disorder: TTUHSC Daily Dose
A new treatment for alcohol use disorder, designed by TTUHSC researcher team led by Susan Bergeson, Ph.D., just received a $7.25 million grant from the NIH. This puts them on the pathway for investigational approval by the FDA for “Medication Development for the Treatment of Alcohol Use Disorder.”

AI Identifies Sex-Specific Adverse Events With High Precision
Using artificial intelligence data, AwareDX (Analyzing Women At Risk for Experiencing Drug toxicity) successfully flagged significant sex-specific adverse effects of drugs. The study published in CELL noted that women are twice as likely as men to have adverse reactions to medications. Learn more here.
AwareDX is the first and only pharmacogenomic data-supported approach to predicting sex differences in drug response, according to investigators.

Lifesaving ventilators are in short supply and we are proud that our founder, Dr. Marjorie Jenkins, may have a solution! Her team has developed and is field testing an “expansion device” that can help multiple patients at the same time.
FDA gives Prisma Health emergency use authorization of “Y” splitter tubing to allow a single ventilator to assist up to four patients.
