Stormwater is not only rain. It’s also run off from lawn sprinklers. This water could carry lawn chemicals and bacteria from pet waste into storm drains that discharge into lakes and the Trinity River. #StormwaterSunday
Fall Gardening
Did you know you can grow tomatoes in the Fall? Fall is the best time to vegetable garden in North Texas because gardeners enjoy a higher success rate with their crops, fewer pests and more comfortable temperatures. Dr. Joe Masabni from Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension gets you prepared by reviewing all the basic cultural garden practices and then takes you through the various cool season crops suitable for a fall garden in our area.

Research interest is to develop production systems for high tunnel vegetables, aquaponics production, and pesticide and variety trials. Extension activities include developing online and printed materials for vegetable organic and conventional producers and homeowners, hosting workshops and conferences, and assisting county extension agents serving Texas clienteles.

We know #Litter is bad for lakes and wildlife. But, what about grass clippings? Can they be pollution? It’s a plant. It’s natural. But, is it a plant that naturally belongs in a lake? As they decompose, they take oxygen out of the water and make it harder for fish to breathe.
Put them back on your lawn as a natural fertilizer, add them to compost, or sweep them up. #StormwaterSunday
Think your lawn irrigation runoff can’t carry grass clippings away and into the storm drain system? Think again. 🤔 #StormwaterSaturday
Check your irrigation to make sure you’re watering your lawn and not sending valuable water to the storm drain. Sprinkler runoff can carry excess lawn chemicals and bacteria from pet waste into local water bodies. #WaterConservation #StormwaterSunday
The weather may have changed your weekend plans but the #StormDrains in your neighborhood are working hard to reduce flooding. Yard waste can clog them when you need them the most. Compost or bag grass clippings and leaves. #StormwaterSunday

Stormwater is rain water. It enters a storm drain (gutter or drain in the street), travels through a pipe, then into a stream, lake or the Trinity River. Stormwater is not cleaned or treated so any pollution it picks up goes directly into lakes and rivers. #WaterWednesday
