Dalton PD has a new officer hitting the streets. K9 Xander began his career this week with K9 Handler, Sgt. James Duryea.

K9 Xander is a 20 month old Dutch Shepherd hailed from Budapest Hungary.

Sgt. Duryea & Xander recently completed their 12 week basic K9 patrol school and are now certified through the North American Police Work Dog Association. They are trained in narotics, building search, article search, area search, tracking, apprehension and officer protection.

Special thanks to Massachusetts Vest-A-Dog for awarding us the grant money to purchase our new K9.

Huge shoutout to K9s of Valor. They heard of Maxs retirement and promptly sent him a retirement package. Max spared no time lounging on his new XL orthopedic bed after enjoying some Stuff’n in his new Kong. Thanks again K9s of Valor.

Today marks K-9 Max’s 9th year of service with the Dalton Police Department. Also today, K-9 Max is officially retired at the age of 10. After 9 years of dedicated service, he will be retired to live an easier, safer life. His forever home will be with his handler, Sgt. Duryea. K-9 Maximus, may you have a long and healthy retirement.
