We want to extend our thanks and an apology to all members who visited us this morning, but were not able to claim their tree. As you may know, this was the first year we have offered the 200 trees on a first-come, first-served basis, and we received an overwhelming response. We are planning a second tree give-away. Please stay tuned for more information on the date and time, as we are working to confirm a delivery date.

Please know we have heard your feedback. The next tree give away:
-- Will be based on tree reservations. (We will announce the date and time for when the reservation form opens a few days in advance.)
-- Will have an adjusted schedule. The next tree give away will NOT be between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on a week day.

We apologize, again, to those who attended today's give away without being able to claim a tree.

North Georgia Electric Membership Corporation (NGEMC) is celebrating 90 years of service to our members and the communities of Northwest Georgia.

NGEMC was founded on May 11, 1936 by local farmers who purchased shares, cleared right of way, and ushered electric service into the area. Today, we are still owned by those we serve, with 107,000+ meters across seven counties and more the 6,500 miles of line.

Today marks 15 years since the 2011 Super Outbreak. This was the second most damaging storm to ever hit our service area. Multiple tornados struck Northwest Georgia, including the terrifying Ringgold-Apison tornado.

As we pause to remember those who were impacted and give thanks for the communities that have since rebuilt, please do not forget to have an emergency plan in place in case of severe weather year-round.

On this Arbor Day, we want to give a special shout-out to our Vegetation Management team. Through their programs, including the spring tree give-away, community plantings, and road-side clean ups, NGEMC has been named a Tree Line USA utility four years in a row.

While you are planting this weekend, please keep in mind the mature height and limb spread of trees, and plant the right tree in the right place: https://www.arborday.org/perspectives/planting-right-tree-right-place
