๐ต SCAM ALERT ๐ต
Our office has received NUMEROUS reports of a new scam being carried out in Whitfield County. We assume that scammers are now preying on recent arrest information and calling families of those who have been incarcerated. They claim to be from bonding companies trying to receive payment to post a bond. One report we received even shows that a scammer called a family only 30 minutes after their relative was arrested.
One thing we teach in our Scam Awareness and Safety course is to "become your own investigator". You can do this by being suspicious of ANYONE reaching out to you about any form of payment. Then, verify all information you are given before making any payments. It may sound like a lot of extra work, but the reward is not falling victim to another low-life scammer trying to take your hard-earned money.
Stay alert, Whitfield County. We see scam reports in our investigative office almost daily. Oftentimes, they could have been avoided by verifying the information and staying suspicious.
