On 06 June, 2026
Damascus, Virginia Fire Department Station 1400 was dispatched to the area of Rhea Valley rd for an electrical transformer that had blown and caused a small fire to begin in the field below.
Brush 144 and Tanker 143 responded to put out the field fire and of course with support from AEP, electricity was cut off and was verified to no longer be a 'hot' line. Water was used to cool equipment for AEP to begin repairs.

As of 2000/8PM, AEP is still in the area working on the line, so understand miscellaneous power interruptions may occur until work is complete.

Memorial Day, we would kindly request that everyone take a moment of silence to reflect on the importance of today and what it truly means to so many of us.
***Please - If you know of a fallen hero, comment their name and let everyone see it to be remembered***

Memorial Day is the day to honor and remember the fallen Military heroes who passed away while serving in the Armed Forces.

Understand that this day can hold more weight to many of our service members and does differ from Veterans Day and Armed Forces Day - as those days are to honor former and current service members, respectively; while Memorial Day is for those who are not with us.

Thank You.

Good To Know!

🏛️ Sheriff’s Office 101 | What Happens When You Call 911

When you call for help, our goal is to get the right response to you as quickly as possible. Here’s what happens behind the scenes:

📞 911 vs. Non-Emergency

Call 911 for emergencies where life, safety, or property is at immediate risk

Non-emergency calls are for situations that still need law enforcement but are not urgent

📍 Location Comes First

Dispatchers will ask for your exact location right away so help can be sent—even if the call disconnects

🗣️ Why So Many Questions?

The questions help dispatchers gather critical details, ensure responder safety, and determine the appropriate response

🚦 How Calls Are Prioritized

Calls are handled based on severity and urgency

Life-threatening emergencies are answered first, followed by active incidents and then lower-priority calls

We appreciate your patience and cooperation—your information helps us serve the community safely and effectively.
