This morning, we stood alongside our community at Pines Park for the VFW Post 9934 Memorial Day Ceremony.

Today is about remembrance. Honoring those who gave everything for our freedom. Their sacrifice is not just history, it’s the reason we get to live the lives we do today.

To our community, we wish you a safe and reflective Memorial Day.

We remember. Always. 🇺🇸

Recently our Chief of Police Services, Administrative Sergeant, and Public Works Director met with residents in the Strands Community regarding ongoing concerns about individuals jumping the fence near the South Strand Switchback Trail and entering restricted open space, illegal fireworks, and speeding vehicles.

Please know entering these restricted areas that are posted are a violation of Dana Point Municipal Code § 13.04.055 and may result in a citation.

Illegal fireworks pose a serious fire risk, especially in dry coastal conditions. Fireworks can carry fines up to $1,000, and smoking in restricted open space areas may also lead to a citation.

Additionally speeding vehicles in these heavily populated areas are dangerous for everyone. Please slow down and drive responsibly.

Increased deputy presence will be in place, and citations will be issued as necessary to ensure public safety.

We appreciate the Strands Beach and Headlands community for your patience and for continuing to report activity. Your calls help us respond where it is needed most.

If you see something, say something. Please report suspicious activity through Sheriff’s Dispatch using the non-emergency line.

Let’s continue working together to keep this area safe and protected.

A few weeks ago, Dana Point deputies were patrol checking the area of Scenic Drive and Cove Road when they located a suspicious vehicle parked in a handicap spot.

After conducting an on-scene investigation and running the license plate, deputies confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Los Angeles County.

Deputies approached the driver of the vehicle and subsequently arrested him for possession of a stolen vehicle and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent. The vehicle was recovered and removed from the statewide stolen vehicle system.

What may look like a quick conversation between deputies is often active communication, teamwork, and real-time investigation happening behind the scenes.
