Yesterday, we were notified that a member of our Battalion who was an original member of Water Witch Hose Co. #7 passed away. Richard Damici joined Water Witch in April 1977 and was a life member. In his 46 years of service he held many roles but held the position of Recording Secretary for many of those years. Richie was at our final annual supper for Water Witch earlier this year. The Officers and Members send their deepest condolences to Carolyn Damici, Amy, Michael and the whole family. Gone but not forgotten, till we meet again in that station in heaven, rest in peace Richie.

Today is the day we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. On this Memorial Day, let’s remember that freedom is not free, it comes with 100s of years of pain and sacrifice by those who fought for our country. It comes with the knowledge that many never made it home. For them, on this day, we remember.

Tonight, the Officers and Members attended the Joint Consolidation Ceremony at Danbury City Hall Council Chambers. President Russell Ferry officially signed the merger documents on behalf of our organization. Frank R Salvatore Jr., as Battalion 31 President signed the document and with that our organization has ceased business operations. Water Witch will live on as a member of Danbury Volunteer Fire Battalion Thirty-One, Inc. Our history will be a part of a new and stronger organization. So for the last time, we will make this the last post on this page. We ask all our faithful followers to follow us on the Battalion page which is tagged above.

On Wednesday, March 15, 2023, Water Witch will be a part of a Combined Consolidation Ceremony where we’ll officially close Water Witch as a business and will operate under Danbury Volunteer Fire Battalion Thirty-One, Inc.
The event will be held at the Danbury City Hall Council Chambers. For those who can’t attend, here is the Zoom livestream info.

Tonight we held the final annual supper for Water Witch. After 134 years, Water Witch will cease operating as an independent firehouse. On March 15th we will complete our consolidation journey with the merger ceremony that will finally see the Battalion be the sole business entity. Last night was bittersweet for Water Witch. We witnessed history, but it does mean that as a business, we will now begin the process of closing up 133 years of history and moving it fully into Danbury Volunteer Fire Battalion Thirty-One, Inc. Don’t, get us wrong, this is a great move and one that will see a stronger volunteer company. But nonetheless, it is ending one long 133 year chapter. Who would have guessed. Stay tuned to hear next steps.

Spent the day getting Squad 7 ready for the Putnam Lake Fire Department light parade. Tomorrow the Danbury Volunteer Fire Battalion Thirty-One, Inc. will participate in the CityCenter Danbury parade.
