Good Afternoon Danbury!

Yesterday we took a suspicious person complaint. Ends up some gent had gone onto someone’s property and asked if they had Fidium. When our resident said they did, the fellow just walked away. No thanks, no…”hey how are you. I am…”

On a hunch we reached out to Fidium and it ends up they have employees in Danbury walking to properties to sell their service.

When we spoke with the manager at Fidium we requested that their field reps identify themselves to our citizens. A name badge for identity was also requested. These fine folks are wearing traffic vest that are high visibility green/yellow and blue. If you happen to have a visitor feel free to ask for ID but the traffic vest is pretty telling as well. Just an FYI, and enjoy this weather!

Good evening Danbury! I normally do not like to repost stories however this is so important for everyone’s safety. Pulling over on the side of the highway is absolutely dangerous under the best of circumstances. Taking a call, checking a tire etc etc and pulling to the shoulder is common place. Erring on the side of caution is crucial for everyone’s safety and moving over a lane or if it’s a two lane road, waiting for oncoming traffic to pass before safely going around a disabled vehicle, tow truck, fire truck, police cruiser, USPS vehicle, trash collector or a tire change makes everyone safe! Giving a pedestrian room in the event they fall into the roadway or whatever occurs makes us all safe! Thanks all and stay warm out there!

NEWS RELEASE: MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED AFTER BEING STRUCK BY VEHICLE ON I-93

LONDONDERRY, N.H. – A Massachusetts man who stopped in the breakdown lane of Interstate 93 was left with serious injuries after he was struck by another vehicle.

On Saturday, February 28, 2026, just before 11 a.m., State Troopers assigned to the Troop B barracks responded to a report of a person struck by a vehicle on I-93 South at Exit 5.

During their on-scene investigation, Troopers determined Felix Matos Medina, 40, of Lawrence, Mass., had stopped his vehicle in the breakdown lane on the right side of the road to investigate a possible mechanical issue. Shortly after stepping out of his vehicle, he was struck by a Chevrolet Malibu, driven by David Jodoin, 43, of Londonderry. Medina was taken by medical helicopter to Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, Mass., with serious injuries. Jodoin stopped at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

During the investigation and to facilitate the landing of the medical helicopter, I-93 South was closed near Exit 5 for half an hour. One lane remained closed for several hours while the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (C.A.R.) Unit investigated the crash. Troopers were also assisted at the scene by members of the Londonderry Fire Department and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.

No charges have been filed at this time; however, all aspects of the crash remain under investigation. Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Trooper Evan Puopolo at (603) 451-9784.

The State Police would like to remind all New Hampshire drivers that Sherrill’s Law (RSA 265:37-a) requires drivers approaching a stopped vehicle displaying warning signals to slow down and give plenty of space. Drivers are also required to move out of partially or wholly blocked lanes when it's safe to do so. Violators face a $75 fine plus a penalty assessment for a first offense, and a $250 fine plus a penalty assessment for subsequent offenses within 12 months.

***NEWS RELEASE***
Released by: John M. Formella, Attorney General
Robert L. Quinn, Commissioner, Department of Safety
Subject: Vehicle Inspection Program Public Guidance

The New Hampshire Department of Justice and Department of Safety are
providing a further update on the state’s vehicle inspection program in response to the federal District Court’s January 27, 2026 preliminary injunction order:

The vehicle inspection program is suspended until further notice.
Inspection stations will no longer be authorized to issue state inspection stickers and vehicles will not be required to obtain an annual state inspection at this time.

Drivers are still responsible under current law to ensure that any vehicle driven in New Hampshire is safe to operate, regardless of the status of the inspection program.

Following the Executive Council’s denial of the Department of Safety’s request to extend the termination date of the State’s vehicle inspection contract with Gordon-Darby NHOST, Inc, the State currently has no approved vendor to operate the State’s vehicle inspection program. As a
result, and after careful review of the legal implications under current state statutes of the lack of an approved vendor, the vehicle inspection program is suspended until further notice.

Inspection stations will no longer be authorized to issue state inspection stickers and vehicles will not be required to obtain an annual state inspection at this time.

The Department of Safety and the Department of Environmental Services are exploring all options to continue to comply with the Court’s order but currently lack the legal authority to operate a vehicle inspection program given that there is no approved vendor for the program. In addition, the State is continuing to seek relief from the Court’s order and has filed a Notice of
Appeal to the First Circuit Court of Appeals as well as a motion requesting that the Court stay its preliminary injunction order.

While the vehicle inspection program is currently suspended, the status of the program remains subject to change as the legal landscape continues to evolve. The State will update its public guidance on vehicle inspections as more information becomes available and will provide additional regulatory flexibility as needed in the event of future changes, including further deadline extensions should the program resume.

At this time, the public is reminded that they are responsible under current law to ensure that any vehicle driven in New Hampshire is safe to operate, regardless of the status of the inspection program. Vehicle safety requirements are set forth in New Hampshire Revised Statutes
Annotated (RSA) Chapter 266.***

So…if you read this and you are confused, well I’ve been a cop for 28 years….join the club.

He’s a readers digest version of what is happening;

The State decided to drop the inspection program.
The State did not do its homework prior to dropping the inspection program.
Litigious actions have been brought forward against the Feds, the State yadda yadda yadda…
No inspection stickers can be issued.
It is up to you to ensure your car is in safe operating condition.
RSA 266 is still enforceable.

I have yet again had a good ole laugh at yet another predictably poorly executed decision and have been forced to offer a firm salute and a round of applause as we try to figure out what to do next.

More updates will follow and maybe they will give us Law Enforcement types some clearer..er..er..er..er direction?

My direction to your Police Department remains in effect, no inspection stickers = no traffic stop. No inspection sticker with bald tires and an inoperative headlamp = traffic stop. I have not received an update regarding commercial motor vehicles.

Please stay safe out there and remember about our Fraud Awareness class for you all this Thursday the 19th at the Town Hall at 6:00pm!

Another update for this quandary relative to State Inspections. No changes in regards to enforcement but this is turning into a mess.

The Exec council denied the DOS extension for the Gordon Darby contract which now means the State does not have a vendor for the State Inspection. Gordon Darby also handles the emission testing so….stay tuned to “How the Granite State turns”

Updated Public Guidance on Vehicle Inspection Program Status
Concord, NH - The New Hampshire Department of Justice and Department of Safety are providing an update on the state’s vehicle inspection program after the Executive Council today denied the Department of Safety’s request to extend the termination date of the State’s vehicle inspection contract with Gordon-Darby NHOST, Inc. As a result of the denial, the State currently does not have an approved vendor to operate the State’s vehicle inspection program.

At this time, the Department of Justice and the Department of Safety are assessing the practical and legal ramifications of the Executive Council’s decision in relation to the pending federal court case brought by Gordon-Darby and the preliminary injunction issued by the Court last week. The State is continuing to seek relief from the Court’s order and will update its public guidance on vehicle inspections as more information becomes available.

At this time, the public is reminded that enforcement of the inspection program has been suspended through April 10, 2026, and additional regulatory flexibility will be provided if necessary.
