Forts Folle Avoine Historical Park

Forts Folle Avoine Historical Park Forts Folle Avoine Historical Park is an historic site along the Yellow River dating back to the 1802-1805 fur trade.

The fur trade posts were reconstructed at the actual site known to be active from 1802 to 1805. Adjacent to the Forts is a re-created Woodland Indian Village. The park, a National Register of Historic Places site, is operated by the Burnett County Historical Society with support from its membership and Burnett County. Visitors come from across Minnesota and Wisconsin and as far away as Scotland, B

ulgaria, France, United Kingdom, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Japan; guest book comments consistently offer superlatives: "fantastic," "tremendous," "amazingly well presented!"

These Yellow River trading posts were abandoned and forgotten, then re-discovered in 1969 by Harris and Francis Palmer and Gene and Lafayette Connor. Through the extant journal of George Nelson, an XY Company clerk, researchers were able to locate the site and begin excavating. The Folle Avoine site is unique for several reasons: the exact place of the wintering posts was found, the posts had been undisturbed for nearly 200 years allowing archeologists a pure site to investigate, and two competing companies were at the same location. Charred remains provided evidence and enabled reconstruction of the wintering posts exactly as they were over two hundred years ago!

Our Great F***e Avoine Fur Trade Rendezvous is coming up July 22nd through 26th, 2026. Pre-registration is not required.
Anyone wishing to camp on rendezvous grounds must be in a canvas tent, dressed and representing the pre-1840 fur trade era.
Vendors, demonstrations, teachers have priority for set up spots on Trader's Row.
Family camps are located in Sayer's field, middle earth and primitive.
Modern camping is in the field by the Schoolhouse. There are no pre-made firepits or electricity, water is available.
Camp fee is still $35, but we would greatly appreciate donations to help with the cost of the porta potties, (ho***rs) and extra dumpster service. These are the largest expense we have for the event and add to in the several thousands of dollars to have enough porta potties on grounds, have them cleaned daily for our campers and guests, and have extra garbage service to accommodate over 100 camps. Also, please bring an item or 2 for the camp prizes.
We need someone to head up the archery competitions and other fun shoots. We also need someone to run the tomahawk and knife competitions and fun throws.
We are looking for responsible adult volunteers to serve as Dog Soldiers for the week.
Our Range Master will be here to run events in the gun range.
We need volunteers to help staff and run the Gift Shop Wednesday through Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm. We have a lead cashier, but at least 2 to 3 people each day is very helpful.
If you want to help us prepare for the event, we have firewood that can be split and stacked, ho**er, hawk n knife range walls that need repairs, a hot water heater installed at Mt. Flushmore as well as cleaning of that facility, The list seems endless and ongoing, (perhaps ON-GROWING is a better term!).
There will be a wild rice pancake breakfast on Sunday, July 26th served from 8 am to noon. We need volunteers to help with the prep and serving. They have added the options of blueberries in your pancakes!
We hope you can camp with us, participate in competitions, visit us, learn, eat and have fun.

P. S. questions:
You know who you are:
1. do we have our candy canon captain attending this year? If yes, can you get the supplies needed for twice a day candy canon Thursday through Saturday and a extra canon firing on Saturday night.
2. do we have our ice run queens attending this year?
