Today, we honor the brave Americans and Allied forces who stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944. Their courage and sacrifice helped secure the freedoms we enjoy today.

VFW Post 149 proudly remembers the heroes of D-Day and the Greatest Generation whose service changed the course of history.
We remember.

We honor. We will never forget.

Stop on down the post today and order some delicious food and drinks to kick off the weekend.

Today we honor and remember the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as those who have since passed. As we take time throughout this Memorial Day to reflect, honor, and pay tribute to our fallen heroes, we would like to share photos from last week as Post 149 prepared for this important day by placing flags at the gravesites of these brave men and women.

This effort was also part of the VFW Day of Service, continuing our commitment to serving veterans, honoring our fallen, and supporting our community through meaningful acts of remembrance and service.

We will never forget their sacrifices and will continue the tradition of remembering and honoring our fallen.

A special thank you to the Danbury Police Cadets, Danbury Police Department, State Senior Vice Commander John Kennedy and the Jason D. Lewis Post, and State Representative Ken Gucker for your support and assistance in helping us carry on this meaningful tradition. Jason D. We would like to announce that the Danbury Memorial Day Parade has been canceled tomorrow due to the inclement weather.

Our post will still hold a small Memorial Day ceremony tomorrow at noon to honor and remember our fallen heroes. All are welcome to join us as we come together in remembrance and gratitude for those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The members of Danbury VFW Post 149 send our heartfelt condolences to the family of Commander-in-Chief Ed Banas on his passing. Commander Banas was a tremendous leader within the VFW and, even after his tenure as Commander-in-Chief, remained instrumental in guiding and mentoring leadership at the Department level.

Post 149 and outgoing Commander Rivas had the honor of spending time with Commander Banas, learning from his wisdom, leadership, and dedication to veterans. His guidance made a lasting impact on Commander Rivas and his leadership at the Post, District, and Department levels.

In this photo, Commander Banas is pictured on the left presenting VFW Post 149 with a delegate medal from a State Convention dating back to the 1930s β€” once again showing the immense knowledge, pride, and history he carried with him throughout his years of service to the VFW.

Commander Banas will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Rest in Peace, Commander Banas.
