As the 2026 general election approaches, Stokes County voters are encouraged to review the following information –

VOTER REGISTRATION STATUS – It is recommended that voters check their voter record to confirm the information is accurate. They may do so by visiting the State Board of Elections’ voter search tool at https://vt.ncsbe.gov/RegLkup/ Note: If a Stokes County resident is already registered to vote here, and does not need to update address, name, or party affiliation, they do not need to submit another registration form.

Some individuals across North Carolina have recently received a voter registration mailing from a third-party group. These mailings are not being sent by a Board of Elections office. Also, in some cases the mailing indicates that the recipient may not be registered to vote, when in fact they are.

If a voter receives a mailing like this and is already registered to vote at their current address in Stokes County, the registration form contained in the mailing does not need to be completed. More information can be found at
https://www.ncsbe.gov/news/press-releases/2026/07/01/bulk-voter-registration-mailings-cause-voter-confusion-additional-work-counties

REGISTERING TO VOTE – If they have not previously done so, a Stokes County resident must submit a voter registration form to the Stokes County elections office in order to be able to vote (Note: Voter registration does not transfer from another state or another North Carolina county.). To vote here, a county resident must have a voter registration form on file with the Stokes County Board of Elections. Instructions on registering can be found at https://www.ncsbe.gov/registering/how-register

UPDATING AN EXISTING COUNTY VOTER REGISTRATION – To change in-county address, name, or party affiliation on an existing registration, a county resident would complete a voter registration form – with the updated information – and submit it to the Stokes County Board of Elections. Instructions can be found at https://www.ncsbe.gov/registering/updating-registration

VOTING BY MAIL – If a voter wishes to vote by mail, that request can be made now and should be done by completing the Absentee Ballot Request Form. A voter may submit a request via an online portal, or they may submit a paper form. Instructions can be found at https://www.ncsbe.gov/voting/vote-mail

ELECTION SCHEDULES AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION can be found at https://www.co.stokes.nc.us/departments/candidate_information.php
