Due to the Stokes County Courthouse being out of power, with no eta of restoration until this afternoon. All courts are cancelled, The Clerks Office & DA's Office will be closed on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.

Stokes County Announces Temporary Closure of Moratock Park on Weekends and Holidays Beginning June 13, 2026

The Stokes County Government announced today that Moratock Park in Danbury, North Carolina will be closed on weekends and holidays beginning June 13, 2026, due to significant public safety concerns associated with ongoing bridge construction and demolition activities adjacent to the park.

The decision follows formal consideration and discussion by the Stokes County Board of Commissioners, who determined that temporary closures during peak visitation periods are necessary to protect residents and visitors while critical infrastructure work is underway.

Construction activity near the park includes heavy equipment operation, demolition staging, and intermittent traffic pattern changes. County officials emphasized that these conditions create elevated safety risks that cannot be adequately mitigated during high volume park use.

Weekday access to Moratock Park will remain available at this time. The County will continue to monitor construction progress and public safety conditions and will provide updates as needed.

Stokes County appreciates the public’s understanding and cooperation as this essential infrastructure project moves forward.

Stokes County Sewer and Water Authority continues to be experiencing difficulties with completing water systems repairs this evening.

Facilities between and including the Arts Block in Danbury and the Main Goverment Center campus will operate on a TWO hour delay tomorrow for non-essential personnel.

Stokes County Hires New Assistant County Manager

Bryan S. Miller has joined Stokes County in the role of Assistant County Manager. Bryan is a seasoned public sector executive with extensive experience in county management, organizational leadership, and strategic operations. Over the course of his career, he has overseen complex governmental functions, guided major capital and infrastructure initiatives, and strengthened service delivery through data driven decision making and collaborative leadership.

Bryan’s background includes senior administrative roles in local government, private sector operational leadership as a Vice President of Operations, and more than eleven years of military service. His work has consistently focused on improving organizational performance, modernizing internal systems, and building strong partnerships with community stakeholders and regional agencies. He holds an MBA from Strayer University and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Economics from Greensboro College, complemented by extensive professional development through the UNC School of Government and NC State University.

Bryan brings a leadership style grounded in accountability, innovation, and service excellence. He is committed to strengthening organizational culture, enhancing operational efficiency, and ensuring that county government remains responsive to the needs of residents and employees alike.

2026 PRIMARY ELECTION INFORMATION

EARLY VOTING for the primary election continues through Saturday, February 28th. Details about early voting in Stokes County can be found at https://www.co.stokes.nc.us/departments/candidate_information.php

ELECTION DAY is Tuesday, March 3rd. The polls will be open from 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM. Polling place locations, sample ballots, and additional information can be found at https://www.co.stokes.nc.us/departments/candidate_information.php

CHECKING VOTER INFORMATION – Voters are encouraged to review their voter record to confirm the information is accurate. They may do so by visiting the State Board of Elections’ voter search tool at https://vt.ncsbe.gov/RegLkup/
More information, such as a sample ballot, is also available.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION –

During the early voting period, a Stokes County voter can go to any of the three early voting sites in the county – King Library, Walnut Cove Library, or the Board of Elections office in Danbury. On Election Day, voters should go to the polling place they’re assigned to, which is based on where they live and are registered to vote in the county.

Voters whose Election Day polling place is located at a school should be mindful that school will be in session on that day (March 3rd). Also, voters who reside in West Walnut Cove precinct are reminded that their Election Day polling place is now located at the Walnut Cove Library, rather than the Walnut Cove Fire Department.
