Jennings Pond: Buttermilk Falls State Park

As of Monday, September 1, 2025, the Jennings Pond Swim Season is over and the management of Jennings Pond reverts back to the New York State Parks from the Town of Danby. The Park will remain open for picnicking, hiking, fishing, and kayaking.

Jennings Pond opens on Wednesday July 2 at Noon for swimming. The Swimming area will be open Wednesday through Sunday every week from Noon to 6pm depending on lifguard availability and the weather. The bathrooms have been cleamed and a handwashing station is on the premises. Hope to see you at the Pond!

As of 9/3/2024 management of Jennings Pond reverts from the Town of Danby to Buttermilk Falls State Park as our Summer Swim program comes to an end. We took in the swim lines, did one final sweep of the area for trash and cleaned the bathrooms one last time. The rented handwashing station will be removed this week (sometime around 9/5/2024). We want to thank our lifeguard for the summer, Will Montgomery, and all our Danby volunteers. The Pond is still open for free for picnicking, kayaking, fishing, and hiking, or just relaxing from sunrise to sunset.

Jennings Pond News: Pease be aware that the bad storm on Monday, July 15, brought some trees down. Thankfully, the Danby Fire Department chain sawed the downed trees and removed them clearing the road. Thank a firefighter when you see them!

In anticipation of our opening for the Summer season, we cleaned the bathrooms today (Friday 6/21) and put in the swim lines. A handwashing station is also now available. Our planned opening for swimming is Thursday 6/27.
Jennings Pond will be open for swimming free to everyone until Labor Day.. Our lifeguard will be on duty from 12 pm to 6 pm on Wednesdays thru Sunday weekly during July and August. Swim only when our lifeguard is on duty, but feel free to picnic, fish, canoe or kayak any day. Hike on our trails near the Pond too!

As of Labor Day (Sept. 4, 2023), maintenance of Jennings Pond has reverted to the State Parks. We thank all Danby volunteers who helped from July to September. Hopefully, next Summer, our swim program will return. In the meantime, enjoy our beautiful Fall and Winter seasons at the Pond.

It is hard to eat from a picnic table when it is submerged in the pond. So, unless you like a wet bottom and algae in your sandwich, it is better when the picnic table is on dry land. Today, Jennings Pond Volunteers removed two picnic tables that had been tossed into Jennings Pond. This is not an easy process since the picnic tables become waterlogged and heavy. At least one of the tables was damaged when it was thrown in. Our picnic tables belong to everyone, so please keep them dry and on land. 😀

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!
Today Danby volunteers cleaned the bathrooms and picked up trash. Please help us keep the park clean.
NOTE: As of this date, we have not found any qualified lifeguards to work at Jennings Pond, so there is no swimming permitted at the Pond. However, hiking, fishing, picnicking, canoeing, and kayaking are all available. Enjoy the summer at Jennings Pond!
