For Immediate Release

Re: Fire Chief Posting

The members of the Danielson Fire Department formally oppose the current external posting for the position of Fire Chief.

It is the clear and unified position of the membership that qualified internal candidates exist and previously applied during the last posting. Those applications were deemed “incomplete” by the Borough President; however, no explanation or guidance was provided to justify that determination.

Despite submitting letters of support for the current administration to the Council, actions have continued that we believe undermine the integrity, stability, and effectiveness of the Fire Department.

Given these circumstances, we strongly discourage external applicants from applying for this position.

Thank you.

With the fire danger increasing, we recommend you refrain from having outdoor fires. If you are burning, always have a water source available and do not leave fires unattended.

If you have received a permit from your local Open Burning Official to burn brush on your property, the permit is not valid if the Forest Fire Danger is rated high, very high or extreme and you are burning within 100 feet of a grassland or woodland.

Last night Chief Chuck Kelleher retired from the position of Fire Chief after 8 years. He will remain a member to continue to support our mission of providing exemplary Emergency Services.

Deputy Chief Jason Burgess was sworn in as Interim Fire Chief by the Borough council. He has been a member for 23 years and has served in every rank. His unwavering dedication and leadership make him a perfect fit to take on this new role.

Congratulations to both!
