We hope everyone has a safe night. Make sure your phone has notifications enabled for your weather apps. The weather will worsen around 3am, but we will see an increase in wind around midnight. The ground is already very saturated. Be mindful of downed power lines, sink holes, and trees that will fall in an event like this. Make sure your safe place in your home is centered and on the lowest level. Call 911 for any life threatening emergency.
Poca volunteer fire department has staffed three apparatus for the evening and throughout the night. Our volunteer fire personnel are committed to helping you in the event of an emergency. We ask that you stay off the roads and remain weather aware until the storm has completely moved through.

Good night and God Bless

The Poca Volunteer Fire Department, along with other County agencies, have spent today and will continue tomorrow preparing for tropical storm Helene.

Here are some storm preparation tips:

1)Stock up on essentials such as food, water, medications, and batteries.

2)Secure outdoor objects that could become projectiles in high winds.

3)Ensure that emergency supplies, like flashlights and first aid kits, are easily accessible.

4)Make a family emergency plan and ensure everyone knows what to do in case of a storm.

5)Stay informed by monitoring weather updates and alerts from local authorities.

Stay safe and be prepared for any disruptions caused by the storm. During times of high call volume there can be delays in response. Make sure your address markers can be easily identified.

All of our response apparatus are ready to respond in the event of an emergency. We recommend following the pages of the US National Weather Service Peachtree City Georgia, Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, Georgia DOT - Northeast, and all our local response agencies for updates.

Tropical Storm Helene is still expected to gain strength as the storm makes the trek through the eastern Gulf. Significant wind and rain impacts are expected for central and north Georgia, so please continue to monitor the forecast closely!
