County fire and roads deployments assisted St. Paul Volunteer Fire Department - Nebraska with a large hay bale fire yesterday. Dannebrog and Farwell fire utilized relay pumping to help deliver a steady flow of water. One pumper pushes water from a fill site, to another pumper closer to the fire providing suppression.

At CHI Health St. Francis, we're dedicated to supporting heroic first responders like the Dannebrog Fire & Rescue/ Boelus Rescue Squad! Thanks to your incredible generosity through the Ticket to Win event, they received $3,156.80.

We have been asked about how many of these fires across Nebraska are starting. The answer is:

The dry weather, low moisture content in grasses, brush, timebr, and high winds fires are easily started/spread from many different ignition sources. Many sources that have been easly controlled or of low risk for starting fires in wetter years are contributing to fire starts.

-Natural starts like dry lighting strikes.
-Winds blowing trees on to power lines.
-Old burns from weeks before stirred up by high winds.
-Controlled burns that escaped due to fast changing weather.
-Burn barrels, bonfires, and campfires tossing embers or not completely extinguished.
-Hot exhaust systems from vehicals driving through dry grass.
-Sparks tossed from dragging chains, machinery, and tools
-Smoking material improperly disposed of.

We can not control or prevent all sources of ignition for fires. Please consider the ones you can and have plan if fire is started.
