*******ANNOUNCEMENT*********
It has been my honor and privilege to serve as your Chief since 2013. I have greatly enjoyed every moment that I have served the citizens within our jurisdiction. I will miss the people, the agency, and the officers immensely. It was my goal as the Chief of Police to ensure that the Danvers Police Department and its personnel were the best trained, best equipped, and best led rural agency in McLean County.
I always attempted to keep the department up to date with the latest technology and equipment, always keeping in mind this had to be done with fiscal responsibility. I had the opportunity to promote, hire and work with outstanding personnel to assist in achieving these goals. Our team has done a phenomenal job, and for this you should be proud. The Danvers Police Department is a proud group of dedicated officers that have worn the uniform with pride and professionalism. At times, this was the most difficult of jobs; but, I always tried to put the citizens and members of the Danvers Police Department first, even at the expense of my family. You probably did not agree with every decision that was made, but I did what I thought was in the best interest of the Village and the brave officers of the Danvers Police Department. I have always been, and always will be grateful for the support of the citizens that I served.
To the Mayor and Village board, thank you for your support. To the Clerk and Treasurer, thank you for all of your help in making my job easier. To the Village staff, thank you for allowing me to work side by side with you and share in providing service to a wonderful community. To the members of the Fire Department, it was a pleasure to be able to build the relationships that we had, and work together to provide superior public safety. To the citizens, thank you for accepting me as an outsider and allowing me the opportunity to gain your trust and work for you. To the members of the McLean County Sheriffs Department, you are second to none, you have played such a large role in our success. To the telecommunicators, thank you for keeping us safe! Last but not least, I want to thank all the Officers of the Danvers Police Department past and present, for your hard work and dedication, making my job so much easier.
All of that said, as I prepare for the next phase of my career, it is my intention to retire as the Chief of Police for the Village of Danvers effective at the end of the work day Friday August 13, 2021.
Sincerely,
Michael S. Kemp
Chief of Police
