Our office is saddened by the passing of our colleague and friend, Chief Steven Cornett. He will be greatly missed.
We offer our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him. He will be remembered for his service, and the impact he made on those around him.
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Village of Tilton announces the passing of former Police Chief Steve Cornett.
Chief Cornett’s life was defined by an extraordinary, lifelong commitment to public safety. While most knew him for his legendary career in law enforcement, his dedication to Tilton's safety began years ago when he also served our community as a Tilton Firefighter and EMS provider. Whether answering a fire call, providing medical care, or patrolling our streets, Steve spent his entire life answering the call for Tilton.
Long before he led the police department as Chief, he spent decades protecting this community as a dedicated officer. After a lifetime of selfless public service, he officially retired as Police Chief in 2017, leaving behind a legacy that continues to shape our village today.
He was far more than a public servant; he was a pillar of Tilton, a protector, and a friend to all who knew him. Throughout his long career, he served with unwavering integrity, deep compassion, and a steady hand.
We extend our deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers to the Cornett family, his loved ones, and all the men and women of our local emergency services who had the honor of serving alongside him over the decades.
Thank you, Chief Cornett, for your decades of sacrifice, your leadership, and your unwavering dedication to the Village of Tilton. Your legacy will never be forgotten. Rest in peace.
