Today, we join our community in honoring and remembering former Tilton Police Chief Steve Cornett as he makes his final journey home to Vermilion County.

Steve began his service in 1984 and faithfully served the community for more than three decades before retiring as Tilton Chief of Police in 2017.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, former coworkers, and all those affected by this tragic loss.

As the procession travels back through the county today, we ask the community to join us in showing respect for a man who dedicated much of his life to public service.

Rest easy, Chief. Your service and commitment to this community will not be forgotten. 💛

Following EMS week theme of Improving outcomes together let’s talk about PulsePoint!

❓How did we get PulsePoint?
* East Central Illinois EMS, has sponsored the use of the app for Vermilion and Champaign Co (Image 1)

❓What is PulsePoint?
* PulsePoint is an app created to inform CPR-trained citizens that CPR is needed in a PUBLIC space. It will notify you when you’re within a certain radius of that location, and give you directions as well as where your closest AED is.(Image 2)

* PulsePoint is there to alert the community of events like structure fires, or accidents, etc. so the community knows to avoid the area.

❓What do the calls mean?
🚑 Medical Emergency- a generic unspecified medical emergency that doesn’t disclose information to violate HIPAA Laws
🔥Structure Fire- a fire reported in a building or home (we make this anytime there is the suspicion of a fire even if there are no flames or smoke present like an electrical issue)
🚨 Alarm- unspecified alarm, could be a fire, smoke, Carbon Monoxide, Trouble, or water flow alarm.
☣️Hazardous Conditions- Situation involving chemicals, or gas leak
🛠️ Public Service- a “catch all” call type that could be numerous situations from a lift assistance to an accident.
⚡️Wires Down- response to down utility line.
These are just a few types of PulsePoint calls you could see, each areas call types do vary (image 3).

❓Why is PulsePoint important?
* Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is one of the leading causes of death in the United States.
* Roughly 1 person every 90 seconds dies from SCA every day.
* 90% of people who suffer sudden cardiac arrest outside of a hospital setting do not survive. Bystander CPR saves lives! The quicker someone can start chest compression the better the outcome the patient has.

PulsePoint is more than just an incident viewer, it’s a tool designed to connect our community to emergency response and lifesaving resources. While not every emergency can be prevented, early CPR,quick AED access, and community awareness can make a critical difference before responders can get there!

We encourage everyone to sign up for CPR classes. You never know when you could save your family member, friend, coworker, or neighbor!

🚨 📢 ATTENTION VERMILION COUNTY 📢🚨

The Vermilion County 911 Communications Center is currently updating our business emergency contact records.

Over time, businesses change ownership, managers, phone numbers, alarm contacts, and after-hours information. When records become outdated, it can delay notifications during emergencies.

Dispatchers and first responders may need to contact a responsible party for situations such as:

• Burglary or fire alarms
• Open doors after hours
• Water leaks or utility issues
• Severe weather damage
• Medical emergencies
• Suspicious activity
• Emergency evacuations

One issue we regularly encounter is responding to a business after hours for an open door or alarm activation, only to find that the emergency contacts we have on file no longer work for the business or the phone numbers are no longer valid. This can delay notifying someone who can properly secure the building or handle the situation.

Having accurate contact information helps us quickly reach the right person when time matters most.

If you own or manage a business in Vermilion County, please take a few minutes to complete the form below with your updated information. Even if you believe we already have your information on file, submitting updated information again is greatly appreciated.

🔒 Information submitted will be used for emergency response purposes only and will only be accessible and seen by the Vermilion County 911 Communications Center.

Thank you for helping us better serve and protect our community!

🩺 National Nurses Week 🩺

This week, we’re recognizing the nurses who care for our community every single day. From emergency rooms, clinics to nursing homes, schools, and doctors’ offices, nurses are often the calm voice, steady hands, and compassionate heart during someone’s worst day.

At 911, we may work behind the scenes, but we see firsthand the dedication nurses bring to every call and every patient. Whether receiving pre-arrival information, preparing for incoming emergencies, or continuing care long after first responders leave, nurses are a critical part of the chain that keeps our community safe.

🩺 A few facts about nursing:
• Nurses make up the largest healthcare profession in the United States
• Some nurses actually work on ambulances! They are called Prehospital Registered Nurses (PHRN)
• Emergency and trauma nurses regularly work alongside EMS and dispatch during critical incidents

Thank you to all nurses for your compassion, teamwork, long hours, and commitment to caring for others. Your work does not go unnoticed!
