Wildfire activity is increasing across Arkansas. In the past 24 hours, forestry crews have suppressed 47 fires totaling 2,099 acres. Crews remain engaged on 24 ongoing fires, including a fire near Plummerville (pictured).

North Arkansas is at high wildfire risk; the southern part of the state remains at moderate risk. Burn bans are in effect for several counties.

Asst. Chief Philip Alexander recently retired after 29 years of service from the Danville Fire Department. Along with a plaque, Alexander received the City of Danville’s recently adopted longevity bonus presented by Mayor Gilkey and his helmet was retired and signed by each member.
