Last week, our Citizens Academy wrapped up after six weeks of action-packed events and presentations. Over the course of the academy, participants had the opportunity to learn about many aspects of law enforcement, including presentations from the Crime Lab and the District Attorney's Office during the final weeks of the program.

Programs like the Citizens Academy help strengthen relationships between our Department and the community we serve.

Citizens Academy classes are typically held twice a year, in the spring and fall.
We look forward to welcoming our next group of participants in the fall!

Yesterday, our Department was proud to participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. We picked up the Flame of Hope from the Walnut Creek Police Department at Broadway Plaza, where it was carried to Valley Station in Alamo and the Danville Police Department, and then handed off to the San Ramon Police Department at Marshall's in Danville.

In total, the run covered more than 10 miles. We were grateful for the support along the route and truly appreciated the encouragement from motorists who cheered us on throughout the event.

This annual tradition represents the shared commitment of law enforcement agencies supporting Special Olympics Northern California and their families.
We are honored to help raise awareness for the athletes who inspire our community every day.

🚨 E-MOTORCYCLE ENFORCEMENT UPDATE:
Police stop and cite juvenile for underage and reckless riding, cite parents, and tow E-Motorcycle

A Danville Police Officer was recently in a residential area where he saw a motorcycle rider run a stop sign. The officer attempted to stop the motorcycle, but the rider did not yield and travelled through the residential area at speeds of up to 45 mph. The officer pursued the motorcycle for nearly a mile, until the rider stopped in a cul-de-sac and was apprehended.

The officer discovered that the rider was 12 years old. The motorcycle was a Talaria brand electric motorcycle, capable of speeds up to 60 mph, and required a driver’s license. The officer contacted the parents and issued citations to the juvenile for evading a police officer, reckless driving, and driving without a license; and to the parents for knowingly allowing a juvenile to ride illegally. The juvenile was released on site to his parents, and the case is being referred to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office for criminal review. The electric motorcycle was towed on a 30-day hold.

“These electric motorcycles are not ‘e-bikes’ — they are motor vehicles, and are not street legal,” said Danville Police Chief Thomas Rossberg. “Not only will illegal riders be stopped and cited, parents of underage riders will also be cited. We encourage families to educate themselves on legal e-bikes and safety guidelines by visiting the Not My Kid website at danville.ca.gov/notmykid.”
