Yesterday, the CCCD, along with Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, and Union County's Conservation Districts, hosted the Susquehanna Valley Middle School Envirothon at the Montour Preserve. It was a beautiful day for some outdoor learning! Benton Area School District once again took home gold for Columbia County and had the highest score at the Forestry station!

Lewisburg's Team A had the highest score overall and won Union County. Selinsgrove's Team B won Snyder County, and Mount Carmel's Team D won Northumberland County.

Congratulations to all of the winners, and thank you to all of the advisor's and schools who support the Envirothon and understand the importance of environmental education!

The Montour County Conservation District participated in an educational field day at the Shultz farm with students from Danville Area School District. Students learned about various aspects of a farming as well as best management practices to improve soil and water quality. The conservation district showed students how macro-invertebrate life in a stream is an indicator of stream health. Students helped identify bugs and learned about the purpose of conservation districts.

This past Saturday the District teamed up with County of Montour for a County-wide tire cleanup. Nearly 1,000 old tires were collected and recycled during the event. A huge thank you to Borough Of Danville, Liberty Township, Valley Township, West Hemlock Township, Derry Township and Anthony Township for volunteering at the cleanup. Without your participation, this event wouldn't have been possible!
