Today, we recognize Juneteenth β€” a day that honors freedom, resilience, and the enduring contributions of Black Americans.

The name Juneteenth combines the words June and nineteenth, commemorating June 19, 1865, when enslaved Texans learned they were free β€” more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

What began as a celebration in Texas has grown into a nationwide observance and became a federal holiday in 2021.

As we reflect on our nation’s history, we encourage our students, staff, and families to learn more about the stories and experiences that continue to shape our communities.

πŸŽ₯ BCSN students recently had the opportunity to present at EDUCON at Eastern Kentucky University, sharing how their student-led broadcasts and productions have grown into an award-winning program that showcases the very best of Boyle County Schools. Educators from across the region learned about the creativity, leadership, and real-world skills our students develop through hands-on media production and live event coverage.

We're incredibly proud of these students for representing Boyle County and demonstrating what student voice, innovation, and teamwork can accomplish.

We are excited to have Gabe join our Boyle County family as the next Boyle County Bands Director!

🎢 The Boyle County Arts Academy is thrilled to announce the appointment of Mr. Gabe Holman as the new Director of Bands for Boyle County Schools! 🎢

A recent graduate of the University of Kentucky, Gabe earned his Bachelor of Music Education summa cm laude and has already built an impressive resume filled with experiences at the elementary, middle, high school, and collegiate levels. He has worked with outstanding programs across Kentucky, including Lafayette High School, Madison Central High School, Bourbon County High School, Bryan Station High School, and Glenn Marshall Elementary School, serving in roles ranging from student teacher to woodwind instructor, visual technician, and leadership educator.

Gabe brings a passion for musical excellence, student leadership, and fostering meaningful relationships with young musicians. His experience includes serving on the instructional staff for the prestigious Smith Walbridge Clinics, where he taught conducting and leadership to student leaders from across the country. He has also worked extensively with successful marching band programs throughout the Commonwealth.

As a student at UK, Gabe distinguished himself as Drum Major of the Wildcat Marching Band, Principal Eβ™ Clarinet in the UK Wind Symphony, and Principal Alto Saxophone in the UK Symphony Band. His accomplishments include being the first University of Kentucky student selected to serve on the Smith Walbridge Drum Major Instructional Staff, and he has helped mentor students who have gone on to earn places in KMEA All-State Ensembles and the Governor's School for the Arts.

Most importantly, Gabe believes in creating environments where students are challenged to achieve their best while feeling supported, valued, and inspired through music. His energy, expertise, and commitment to students make him an outstanding addition to Boyle County's strong district-wide arts faculty.

With a state-of-the-art performing arts center, a thriving Arts Academy, dedicated boosters, and a community that values the arts, the Boyle County band program has tremendous momentum. The future is bright, and Mr. Holman's experience, vision, and enthusiasm will help continue building a program where students can excel both on and off the stage.

πŸ₯πŸŽΊπŸŽ· Please join the Boyle County community in welcoming Mr. Holman as the newest member of the Rebel family! 🎢
