It’s been a busy week in District 2 with welcoming remarks at the Menorah Lighting in the new City Center in San Ramon, followed by a fabulous San Ramon Valley Christmas Concert in Danville on Sunday; Monday I was delighted to swear in the newly elected members of the Orinda Union School District and say farewell to Board Member Julie Rossiter; Tuesday I honored outgoing Orinda Council members Eve Phillips and Dean Orr; and Wednesday I attended Moraga’s Council meeting to present proclamations to former Mayors Dave Trotter and Teresa Onoda as they left the Town Council. We are so fortunate to have so many smart, caring people willing to step up and serve in local office.

Prescription Drug Take Back This Saturday, October 28

On Saturday, October 28, 2017, from 10 AM to 2 PM, the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

Bring your pills for disposal at the following sites. The DEA cannot accept needles or sharps, only pills, patches, and liquids sealed in their original container. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

DROP OFF LOCATIONS:

-Office of the Sheriff Muir Station, 1980 Muir Road, Martinez,
CA. (Field Operations Building)

-Office of the Sheriff Bay Station, 5555 Giant Highway,
Richmond, CA. (West County Detention Facility)

-Danville Police Department, 510 La Gonda Way, Danville, CA.

-Lafayette Police Department, 3675 Mt. Diablo Way, Suite 130,
Lafayette, CA.

-Orinda Police Department, 22 Orinda Way, Orinda, CA.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish at home are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards.

For more information about the disposal of prescription drugs or about the October 28, 2017 Take Back event, go to the DEA Office of Diversion Control website at: www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov.

My Saturday was off to a great start when I was able to make some introductory remarks with Karen Mitchoff at the Library Commission/Friends of the LIbrary retreat. Grateful for all of the hard work our cities and their supporting Friends of the Library and endowment groups do to make our Contra Costa libraries such amazing resources for the community.

Spent the rest of the day with another group of dedicated people -- our Contra Costa County Mental Health Commissioners at our annual retreat. Lots of great ideas to improve how we can help the mentallly ill in our community!

“Show Me the Money!”
Live, Local Veterans’ Voices TV Show Airs tonight at 7:00 p.m. on CCTV.

Veterans: during your time in service, you may learn how to manage sophisticated and costly weaponry, how to grow in leadership, and how to put your fellow service members’ lives before your own. Did anyone talk to you about how to handle your finances?

Tonight's episode of “Veterans’ Voices,” will do just that – talk frankly about how to prepare financially for your future, and your family’s future as well. In “Show Me the Money,” you can offer your questions or thoughts (anonymously, if you want) about how to navigate the often tricky financial waters veterans face. Financial counselors familiar with the unique financial situations of veterans will be on hand to answer questions. They’ll also discuss how to avoid financial hardships and look out for scams or traps that might sound good, but aren’t good paths to follow.

Your actions are not the least restrictive option available to you, and are thus blatantly unlawful. I demand that you immediately cease infringing on my Constitutional rights. Failure to respect the Constitution will result in hyper-aggressive litigation which will seek to pierce your qualified immunity. What data are you using because 25 deaths in CCC does not make this a “medical emergency”. Hospitals are empty. This is unconstitutional. We have the right to work and live even with an emergency, it’s well-established. You have the right to isolate SICK individuals only. The masks are also unconstitutional and unhealthy. They cause respiratory illness. They decrease oxygen intake and force us to breathe in carbon dioxide. They lower our immune system! You do not have a medical nor legal justification to this mandate. If we are not allowed to enter grocery stores without a mask because of your recommendations, then you are responsible for me not being able to feed my family. You cannot restrict my Constitutional rights. We can social distance at big stores but not small businesses? The gov. has no power to decide which businesses are essential. Dog groomers can be open but not hair salons? CDC says dogs should now social distance as well, so this is discrimination agains people groomers. Open up May 1!
When are you Supervisors going to do something about the conditions at the CC Animal Shelter? It's disgraceful!
Hey Contra Costa County you are in the News RIGHT NOW for splitting up families and ripping children from their parents,,, Uh WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE in you alls own front yard???
