Congratulations Brice !

The community builder award this year has been renamed to the Funkhouser Community Builder Award in honor of and to recognize John Funkhouser for all of his energy, time, effort, sponsorship, and dedication he has given to our communities.

This award is presented to an individual who works tirelessly to improve not just their own community, but all of our communities. They excel at making connections, inspiring others, and uniting people for the common good.
This person gives freely of their time and talent, serving as a passionate liaison who constantly seeks ways to involve groups and individuals in meaningful work. They are always among the first to lend a hand, organize volunteers, and step up to serve our communities.
Just like John, this individual goes above and beyond to make a lasting difference in the lives of those around them.
And this year, the recipient of the Funkhouser Community Builder Award is Brice Gibson.

Brice is the Boyle County Health Department Harm Reduction and Homeless Coordinator. (The Bridge Recovery Community Center). He is boots on the ground and is out amongst those living without shelter. Brice coordinates supplies and food, and brings together organizations to help solve this ongoing crisis. He serves as the central hub for all those who are homeless and in need.

Recently the Kentucky Child Fatality and Near Fatality External Review Panel reviewed a critical area in our communities risk data regarding pediatric ingestion, protecting small children from the dangers of accidental THC consumption.

THC products, which can often look like regular treats or candies, can be very dangerous to children. Educating caregivers, prescribers, retailers, and consumers about these risks is very important regarding storage and keeping our children safe in our community. We will have posters for our community to display in local businesses, retail stores, and any family gathering areas to raise awareness for pediatric ingestion risk of accidental THC consumption.

The HANDS program (Health Access Nurturing Development Services), which provides home visiting services prenatally to the third birthday, needs your input! The HANDS program wants to learn more about awareness and perceptions of the program’s services by others in the community. If you are affiliated with an organization that serves pregnant women, children, or families with young children, please consider taking 5 minutes to complete this brief survey (link: https://redcap.link/HANDS-Partner-Survey).

The survey link will be active until May 29, 2026. If you have questions, please contact [email protected].

This survey should take less than 5 minutes to complete and will provide valuable information about your awareness and perceptions of the HANDS program's services. If you have questions, please contact [email protected].

Safe sleep saves lives 💜

When it’s time for baby to rest, remember: keep the crib clear.
🚫 No pillows
🚫 No blankets
🚫 No toys or stuffed animals

A bare sleep space helps reduce the risk of sleep-related infant deaths—keeping your little one safer every time they sleep.

Keep it bare. Keep it safe. Keep it simple. 💤
