🚨 NATIONAL OVERDOSE AWARENESS DAY 🚨

Today, we recognize National Overdose Awareness Day.

As police officers, we are often among the first to arrive at the scene of an overdose. Every second counts. Darien Police patrol vehicles carry Naloxone (Narcan), and our officers are trained to administer it to help reverse opioid overdoses.

Know the signs of an overdose:
• Not responding or unable to wake up
• Slow, shallow, or no breathing
• Blue or grey lips or nails
• Pinpoint pupils
• Limp body

📞 IF YOU SUSPECT AN OVERDOSE, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY.
Do not hesitate to seek help. Staying at the scene can make the difference between life and death.

🛡️ THE GOOD SAMARITAN LAW PROTECTS YOU
In Connecticut, individuals who call 911 in good faith when witnessing an overdose have protections from arrest and prosecution for certain drug possession offenses.

Be aware. Be prepared. Together, we can make a difference.

Back to school is here! We are continuing our partnership with local schools to promote ebike safety and ensure all riders understand the rules of the road. Keeping our students safe is our top priority, and we are actively working to ensure all ebikes on the road meet legal requirements. Let’s keep our streets safe together.

🚗🚲 SHARE THE ROAD. DRIVE RESPONSIBLY.

As part of the Darien Police Department’s ongoing E-Bike Safety Awareness Campaign, we’re turning our attention to drivers.

E-bikes can travel faster than traditional bicycles, and drivers need to be prepared to safely share the road with them. A few extra seconds of awareness can make a big difference.

👀 Watch carefully at intersections — check your blind spots and don’t underestimate an approaching e-bike’s speed.

↪️ Don’t cut them off — make sure an e-bike has cleared the intersection before making a turn.

↔️ Give at least 3 feet of clearance when passing an e-bike.

🚗 Watch the door zone — give cyclists and e-bike riders plenty of space around parked vehicles.

🚲 Respect bike lanes — don’t drive or park in designated bike lanes where e-bikes are legally permitted to travel.

Be patient. Be aware. Be respectful.
Together, we can help keep everyone on Darien’s roads safe.
