PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Single-Family Structure Fire (8S054 Adams Street – Unincorporated Downers Grove, IL)

On Thursday, June 4, 2026, at approximately 8:54 pm, DuPage Public Safety Communications (Du-Comm) received a 911 call reporting a fire at 8S054 Adams Street in Unincorporated Downers Grove.

A structure fire response was immediately dispatched, sending four (4) engines, two (2) ladder trucks, two (2) medic units, and several Command staff officers to the scene.

The first fire company arrived on the scene at 8:59 pm and found smoke coming from the attached garage. Crews immediately deployed multiple hose lines to begin extinguishment of the fire that was located in the garage. Additional crews also began searching the home for any occupants and hidden fire.

Crews brought the fire under control in approximately fifteen minutes. However, units remained on scene until approximately 10:45 pm, performing salvage, overhaul, and conducting an origin and cause investigation.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, but it does not appear to be suspicious in nature.

The DuPage County Building and Zoning Department deemed the home uninhabitable and total damage estimates are unavailable at this time.

No firefighters or civilians were injured in the fire.

Darien Woodridge Fire Protection units were assisted by the Lisle Woodridge Fire Protection District, Downers Grove Fire Department, Tri-State Fire Protection District, Westmont Fire Department, and the DuPage County Sheriff.

The Darien Woodridge Fire Protection would like to remind everyone that smoke detectors save lives. All homes should have a working smoke detector in and outside each sleeping area and every floor of the home. In addition, the National Fire Protection Agency recommends testing them monthly and that they are replaced every ten years. For more information on smoke detectors and fire safety, please visit www.nfpa.org/eduction.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available. If you have further questions, please contact the Darien Woodridge Fire Protection District at 630-910-2200.

Please remember to be cautious with paint, stain, etc. rags when completing your summer projects!

Tackling some spring cleaning or painting this weekend?

Oil-soaked rags can start a fire if not handled safely. As oil-based paints and stains dry, they give off heat. If rags are piled up or put in a closed container, that heat can build up and start a fire.

Stay safe:
• Lay rags flat to dry outside, away from anything that can burn
• Or place them in a metal container with a tight-fitting lid
