We were excited to hear about the wonderful opportunities for our community through the Darlington Recreation Department from Director Lee Andrews at our January 15th meeting. The beautiful new facilities on Blue Street are a tremendous asset to our citizens and some exciting new events are coming our way there! Recreation Department of the City of Darlington has a host of recreation opportunities including gyms, a pool, tennis courts, parks and more!

Today was a jump start on Christmas celebrations. We enjoyed a program featuring Ann Miles and her beautiful arrangements of some of our favorite songs of the season. Diane Sigmon and Kathy Shuler enjoyed harmonizing on a few tunes too. Andy Cohen got us started with the acoustic guitar and John Denver's Christmas for Cowboys. The beautiful decorations already in place at the Darlington Country Club added just the right touch to the day! MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Nucor, Darlington is a tremendous asset to our community!! Jason Freidenberger, Vice President & General Manager guided a great conversation about Nucor’s diverse operations. The Darlington plant is responsible for a significant amount of custom steel work. We are proud of Darlington’s role in the history of this great company!

Monty Bell, Assistant Attorney General, shared great insights into Attorney General Wilson’s Violent Crimes Case Reduction Unit (VCCRU). AG Wilson established VCCRU last year to assist solicitors’ offices that have significant backlogs of violent crimes to prosecute. They are currently working in Sumter and looking toward providing support in Darlington County soon. He helped us to understand the structures that allow more timely prosecution of offenders.

The idea of a Diaper Dump came from the Kiwanis International Convention several years ago, and we finally made it happen. We are very proud of our members for supporting our drive. We hope to grow this into a community event next year. Please keep the McLeod Nurse Family Partnership in your prayers to keep providing support for needy mothers as well as our efforts to help them.

A BIG thank you to all of our members that have donated diapers. We will collect one more time at our next meeting before donating them to the McLeod Nurse Family Partnership. Anyone can participate by bringing your diaper donations to State Farm or First Citizens.

Our Mother's Day project for this year will be a Diaper Dump! We are asking each member to bring packs of diapers (0-24 mos.) to our meetings in May, and we will donate them to McLeod's Nurse-Family Partnership. Any member unable to be at a meeting, or any nonmember, can bring diapers to the State Farm or First Citizen's locations in Darlington.

The city and county of Darlington is blessed to have people with a servant’s heart like Todd Hardee. Todd spoke to our club at the March 6th meeting about efforts to improve the downtown Darlington area. He always weaves interesting historical facts and stories for an enjoyable presentation!
