Tonight my heart is with the dedicated officers of the Darlington Police Department.

The news that Police Chief Szvon D. Conway was arrested Friday night on OWI and hit-and-run charges is deeply troubling — not just for our community, but for every officer who shows up every day to serve with integrity.

Those officers deserve better. They deserved better leadership from the start.

I have not forgotten how we got here. Our former chief — a man who followed the law, upheld standards, and led with integrity — was pushed out due to the unreasonable demands of a former mayor who, in my view, prioritized personal preference over what was best for this department and this community.

Darlington Police Chief Szvon D. Conway was arrested following a crash in Monroe Friday night, according to the Monroe Police Department.
