Hello friends and neighbors,
This isn’t our usual cheerful post, but it’s something we feel needs to be said.
Recently, a citizen has questioned the closing of our ambulance service in a way that could hurt the good name of the Darlington Rescue Squad. We’ve reached out three times offering to meet and explain, but those offers were ignored — instead, the discussion has been taken to the courtroom of Facebook.
As you can see in the post below, we were fully transparent when we shared the difficult news about closing our ambulance service in July of 2024. It was a heartbreaking decision, but one that had to be made. Since then, our remaining members have worked hard to keep the spirit of the Squad alive by donating to local non-profits, charities, and community events — doing what we can to continue serving Darlington.
We will always be grateful to the Darlington Fire Department for creating the Rescue Squad many years ago. However, we do want to clarify that for the 20 years leading up to our closing, we received no financial support from the City of Darlington.
Our goal now is simple: to use the funds we have left to make our community a better place. That’s what the Darlington Rescue Squad has always been about — helping others.
It’s painful to see posts that question our intentions or cast doubt on the hard work of the volunteers who have kept this organization going. We truly appreciate the support so many of you have shown through the years, and we’re always happy to answer any questions anyone might have.
Thank you for allowing us to continue serving Darlington in a different way — with the same heart and dedication as always. ❤️
