💜June 15th: World Elder Abuse Awareness Day💜
Today we observe World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. In 2025, Lafayette County had 89 Adult Protective Services reports in our county alone.
This year Adult Protective Services and the I-Team worked with the 5th graders of Lafayette County in area school districts to bring awareness to Elder Abuse through a coloring contest. The goal was to bring multi-generational awareness to the topic of Elder Abuse through the contest and providing information on elder abuse. The first place winner at each school received a leggo set donated by a local agency, while second and third place at each school received free smoothie vouchers donated by Kwik Trip.
For those who are not familiar, I-Team is an Elder Abuse Interdisciplinary Team formed to improve each lead elder abuse agency's response to victims of abuse, neglect, or exploitation. This is a group of selected professionals from a variety of disciplines who meet regularly to discuss and provide consultation on specific cases of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation. I-Team uses the varied backgrounds, training, and philosophies of the different professions to explore the best service plan for the cases involved.
Adult Protective Services and I-Team would like to thank Argyle, Belmont, Benton, Blackhawk, Darlington, Pecatonica, and Shullsburg Schools for participating in this contest and allowing us to provide education and awareness to Elder Abuse.
