Valley Mill Camp Valley Mill Camp has been serving families in the Washington D.C. area since 1956, combining closeness to home with the atmosphere of an away camp.

Valley Mill Camp is a day camp for children. Established in 1956, the camp has been an environmental organization that has been teaching conservation to children through immersive outdoor education for over sixty years. Located on more than sixty acres of deep woods, and surrounding a two acre spring fed lake, Valley Mill is a wildlife preserve that provides ample space for a vigorous camp program

for children ages 4 to 14. Valley Mill focuses on building lifelong connections with nature by inspiring young people through cultivation of wildlife stewardship.

Valley Mill Camp presents Family Adventure Day - April 11th or April 12th (or both!) Join us for Family Adventure Day at Valley Mill Camp! Families are invited to spend a fun, outdoor day together with kayaking, rock climbing, archery, and creative nature crafts from 10:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. each day! You can even add an optional campfire lunch for $10 dollars per person per day featuring hotdogs or hamburgers (with veggie options), carrot and celery sticks, and a classic s’more! All activities are led by our certified staff, and parents stay with their children at all times, making it a safe, relaxed way to enjoy the outdoors together in the woods and by the lake. What did you guess??
Bluegill and largemouth bass are the only types of fish in the lake! Bluegill are in the sunfish family, you can tell that they are bluegill by the black dot at their gills. They eat insect larvae and even algae when they have nothing else to eat! Largemouth bass are the predators of the lake! They eat anything that can fit in their mouth, including bluegill 😱 when they are ready to spawn(have babies) the males build a nest, usually twice their body size! Of course they’re hidden where the babies can grow safely. Who’s excited to catch some fish this summer?! I know we are! 🎣

The first signs of the spring season are starting to emerge at valley mill with these beautiful crocus flowers! These and snowdrops are one of the first flowers to bloom in late winter and early spring. Our local pollinators and honeybees are enjoying this abundance of pollen! Honeybees will collect their pollen on their hind legs to bring back to their hive! Using saliva and nectar they make the pollen sticky enough to attach to their legs so they can fly home and create more honey.
