Faculty and students from the 2018 ‘Bridging the Atlantic’ student exchange between UMass Dartmouth and University of the Azores arrived yesterday at the 12th Annual European Public Health Conference in Marseille, France to present three posters related to the exchange.

The conference, “Building bridges for solidarity and public health,” has over 2000 attendees from across the globe with a focus in public health in Europe and Africa. The goal is to seek solutions to shared challenges as inhabitants of a small planet now face global threats from climate change, emerging infections, and the global epidemic of non-communicable diseases.

Many robust discussions regarding how to reduce the need for people to move from their homes, and how to protect those who are forced to; provision of inter professional health promoting and protecting environments for migrants in Europe, how to build bridges between different professions and communities as a means to implement the Sustainable Development Goals, and chart the future of public health in Europe.

We are six of very few nurses and delegates from the US here but have learned a lot and are inspired to advocate for change and share the current and future challenges associated with public health across the globe ✌🏽❤️ 🌍

Dear UMass Dartmouth College of Nursing Graduate Class of 2018 and Class of 2019!

How has your transition to the role of professional nurse been for you? Is there anything you wish you would have known prior to graduation?

We would love to have a better understanding of your transition to professional nursing practice. We are interested in exploring and sharing both your positive and perhaps not so positive experiences during your transition. We would also like to know what helped or hindered your transition.

Please join us for a focus group discussion on Wednesday February 5th, from 4:30 – 6:30 pm in DION 203. You provide your experiences and we’ll provide the pizza and salad.

Please RSVP by Wednesday January 29th to Shanon Brown at [email protected]

Thanks for your consideration and looking forward to your participation!
