Darwin MN Twine Ball

Darwin MN Twine Ball Worlds Largest Ball of Twine made by 1 man. Constructed by Francis A. Johnson, it weighs 17,400 pounds and has a circumference of approximately 40 feet.

The ball is in a specially designed gazebo and is viewable 24-7. There is a museum/gift shop run by the Darwin Community Club behind the ball. The museum covers the history of both the ball of twine and the City of Darwin, MN. The museum has set hours in the summer but is always open by appointment. Souvenirs are also available at V’s Grill & Pub up the street.

This is likely our regular volunteer staffed weekend at the museum. but with Facebook messages and a little notice we are happy to find a volunteer to come in anytime. Quick correction, we will for sure have a volunteer the next two Thursdays. Remember Weird Al is performing at the Ledge in waite Park on September 11th.

Two days until Twine Ball Day! Weather is looking beautiful, so please join us in Darwin this Saturday as we celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Francis A. Johnson’s ball of twine, which he rolled from 1950-1979.

12:30 PARADE! - lineup @ 11:30 (no registration needed)

Plus crafts, raffle and great food in the park from Darwin Lions Club, All Saints, St John’s and V’s Grill & Pub and Troubles #2 Restaurant and Bar Darwin at their locations. The museum will also be staffed for much of the day, so pick up your Twine Ball merch and explore Darwin’s rich history. See you on Twine Ball Day!

Opened up for a group on an American exchange program. They all arrived today, visited the MOA and then came to Darwin to see the Ball. they'll spend a week with host families in the willmar area. FUN!
