Every year in the first week of September, Workplace Lactation Week is celebrated. This year’s theme is “A World of Support: Creating Breastfeeding-Friendly Workplaces Everywhere.” At WIC, we support working moms by providing breast pumps, peer counselors and lactation experts, nutritious food, and personalized support to fit your needs.

Did you know you have legal breastfeeding protections at work, in public, and more? You deserve to feed your baby with confidence, wherever you are! Learn more about your breastfeeding rights: www.wicbreastfeeding.fns.usda.gov/your-breastfeeding-rights

Self-care is a vital ingredient in managing everyday stress. If stress gets too heavy, reach out to a healthcare provider for support.

Making time to rest, recharge, set boundaries, and do things that support your well-being can help you better manage everyday stress. Self-care doesn’t have to be complicated or take hours out of your day. Sometimes, it’s simply recognizing when you need a break and allowing yourself to take one.

You spend a lot of time taking care of what matters. Remember that you matter, too.

And if stress or emotional concerns are becoming difficult to manage on your own, consider reaching out to a healthcare provider. You don’t have to wait until things feel overwhelming to ask for support.

Grief is something we all experience differently. There isn't a timeline to follow or a "right" way to move through it.

Some days may feel manageable. Other days may feel much harder. Both are a normal part of the grieving process.

If you're grieving, be patient with yourself. Reach out to someone you trust, take care of your basic needs, and remember that it's okay to ask for help when you need it.

If someone you care about is grieving, one of the most meaningful things you can do is simply be there. People often feel like they have to find the right words. You don’t. Your presence and support is what can make a difference.

Just like during pregnancy, eating a nutritious, balanced diet while breastfeeding is important! It helps you stay energized and produce plenty of milk for your little one. Listen to your body: Eat when you're hungry and drink when you're thirsty.

Your WIC breastfeeding staff can help you make healthy choices that work for you. Let’s keep you and your baby thriving together!

It’s hard to believe, but back-to-school season is here!

As students across our community head back to the classroom, now is a great time to get back into healthy routines. Make sure backpacks fit properly, pack a healthy lunch, encourage good handwashing habits, and help your child get plenty of sleep before the first day of school.

A little preparation now can help set your student up for a healthy and successful school year.

We wish all of our Lincoln County students, families, teachers, and school staff a great start to the new school year!

Healthy vision plays an important role in how children learn, play, and explore the world around them.

As the new school year gets closer, it's a great time to pay attention to your child's eye health. Some vision problems aren't obvious, and children may not realize they're having trouble seeing.

Watch for signs such as squinting, frequent eye rubbing, holding books or screens very close, complaining of headaches, or having difficulty reading.

If you notice any of these signs, talk with your child's healthcare provider or schedule a comprehensive eye exam. Early detection can make a big difference in a child's learning and development.

Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid that can be mixed into counterfeit pills and other drugs without a person’s knowledge. Even a small amount can be dangerous.

One way to reduce the risk of an overdose is to only take medications prescribed to you or purchased from a licensed pharmacy. It’s also important to know about naloxone and how it can help during an opioid overdose. Having naloxone on hand can save a life.

Naloxone is available at the Lincoln County Public Health office Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM. Call (509) 725-1001 for more information.
