🦆 Sewer rescue unlocked.

When a family of ducklings fell through a sewer grate and mom flew the coop, our team did what they do best. Officer Keltz and Officer McGlynn climbed down into the sewers and brought them to safety.

We're incredibly happy to share that all ducklings are safe and heading to a rehabber tomorrow ❤️

Thank you to the Amazon workers who spotted them and called it in, your assistance was incredibly helpful during this rescue!

Big news for animals in Iowa: HF 2348 — the Felony Animal Torture Bill has officially passed the Iowa House unanimously.

This legislation would elevate intentional animal torture to a felony offense on the first offense, helping ensure that extreme cruelty carries real consequences.

Stronger protections for animals matter, and we’re grateful to see steps being taken to strengthen these laws.

Felony Torture Bill — HF 2348 just passed the Iowa House unanimously!

With this bill, Iowa will finally join every other state in treating intentional animal torture as the felony it is. This bill clearly defines “torture” and elevates intentional animal torture to a Class D felony on the first offense—closing a major gap in our law and ensuring extreme cruelty carries real consequences.

I’m proud to see Iowa take this important step to protect animals and strengthen our laws. And thank you to all for the support on this legislation!

Please encourage your Senators to also prioritize this legislation!

A huge THANK YOU to our friends at On The Run Pet Rescue for their help yesterday.

When one of our dogs unexpectedly got loose from HSSC, their team jumped in to assist — and we are incredibly grateful for their experience, quick response, and support.

You may notice a net being used in the photo, and we want to take a moment to reassure our community: tools like this are commonly and safely used for evasive dogs to prevent injury, reduce stress, and ensure everyone’s safety — especially the dog’s. All handling was done with care, intention, and the dog’s well-being as the top priority.

The most important update: the dog is safe, secure, and back at HSSC, resting comfortably after a big adventure. 🐾

We’re thankful for strong partnerships, teamwork, and a community that shows up when animals need us most. It truly takes a village — and we’re so grateful for ours. 🫶🏼

We are beyond grateful for all On The Run Pet Rescue does for our community!

Our Animal Protection Officers maintain a group chat with On The Run Pet Rescue volunteers to coordinate assistance with trapping those extra elusive pets that aren’t easily caught. It leads to great coordination and continued efforts to help pets even when our officers get called to other service needs in the community.

Thank you On The Run! 🐶🐱

🐐 We love it when a call has the perfect outcome!

Today we received a call about a "Billy goat" who had wandered into someone's yard. Officer Keltz was able to safely capture the little guy, Sire, and reunite him with his owner.

Thanks to social media and community connections, we were able to quickly identify the owner through a Facebook post and get Sire back home where he belongs!

A big thank you to the community member who called it in and to Officer Keltz for handling the situation with care. 🤎

Remember: If you see a stray or lost animal, don't hesitate to give us a call. We're here to help!

✨️ Transformation Tuesday ✨️

Meet Serena — This sweet senior girl came to us Monday evening, severely matted but still in surprisingly good spirits. Our team jumped into action, getting her evaluated by a veterinarian and shaved down to reveal the tiny, dainty pup hiding beneath all that overgrown fur.

Would you have guessed such a delicate girl was under all that hair? Neither would we.

It’s easy to speculate about her past, but the truth is—we simply don’t know where Serena came from. What we do know is that she’s safe now. Our job is to give her the love, comfort, and dignity she deserves from this moment forward.

A huge thank you to our Animal Protection Officers for responding quickly and getting her to safety. 💛
