Tomorrow is National Gardening Day. There are real benefits to gardening besides a beautiful yard. Physically, gardening burns calories and strengthens the heart. Mentally, gardening distracts you from the world’s pressures, reducing your stress and anxiety. And then, of course, all those esteem-building compliments from all your neighbors!

Sources estimate Iowa needs an additional $50–100 million per year to move from "generally capable" to "highly prepared." That money would go for shelters, more advanced warning systems and local emergency management agencies. So let’s hope and pray for milder storm seasons. And elect legislators who believe we need a stronger disaster infrastructure, just in case.

When you vote, you’re honoring 26,600 Iowans who paid the ultimate price – to preserve our rights. Find your polling place here https://elections.scottcountyiowa.gov/search/

Working families need affordable childcare to stay employed, pay bills, and build stable lives. When care costs rival rent or tuition, parents—especially mothers—are pushed out of the workforce. Affordable childcare strengthens Iowa families, and keeps the state, local and “family” economy running.

We need people in Iowa state government who place loyalty to their Iowa constituents above loyalty to their party. State representatives who will speak out against billion-dollar-a-day undeclared wars, illegal tariffs, etc. that they know are going to hurt the people they were elected to help. I don’t care which Party is in charge, if their policies are hurting us, they will hear from me, loud and clear.
