There’s a lot happening on 4th St! Starting Tuesday, September 8, the street will be down to one lane between Fillmore and Harrison as crews begin milling the north side of the roadway. They’ll be milling and patching spots that need attention before resurfacing starts — which is expected by early October.

You’ll also see work happening at several intersections on the south side of 4th St, so plan for some delays during this phase. Things are moving full speed ahead, so keep an eye out for updates as the project progresses!

The flood resilience project at 2nd and Gaines will get underway on September 8. The bridge ramps will stay open throughout the project - you’ll just get to them a little differently. During this first phase, W 2nd St will be closed on both sides of the bridge. Drivers coming off the bridge will head toward Western. To get onto the bridge, drivers will take River Dr and turn at Brown St.

We’ll provide travel updates as work progresses. The work is expected to wrap up this winter.

Great news! Work on Elmore is nearly wrapped up - way ahead of schedule! The only item left is laying sod in the boulevards, which we will have to hold off on until temperatures cool down a bit. Thanks so much for your patience while crews tackled improvements between Kimberly Rd and 39th Street. By proactively patching 12 inches deep into the deteriorated concrete, we were able to strengthen the roadway and avoid much higher reconstruction costs down the road. We also upgraded the stormwater intakes along the corridor to help improve and prevent infiltration.

Holiday reminders: Solid waste will not be collected on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day. All solid waste collection will be one day late for the week; Friday’s collection will occur on Saturday. The Davenport Compost Facility will also be closed, and Davenport CitiBus Transit will not be running.

Heads up, everyone! Students are hopping on and off buses all across our neighborhoods. Please remember to stop - and never pass a bus from either direction on - when the stop arm is out. That brief pause in your day makes a big difference in keeping kids safe.

Resurfacing work on Harrison St between W Central Park and W Locust starts August 31. Expect travel to be reduced to two lanes.

Here’s what’s happening:
• Targeted full‑depth patching and sewer repairs
• Asphalt removal and fresh resurfacing
• Upgraded ADA curb ramps along the corridor

Work is expected to wrap up this winter.

Be Disaster Resilient! Join us at the Be Ready: Emergency Resource Fair on Sunday, August 30, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Waterfront Convention Center in Bettendorf. The event is free and open to everyone!

Davenport staff will be there alongside the Quad Cities Flood Resilience Alliance, ready to answer questions about flood elevations and share ways to reduce flood risk for anyone living in the floodplain or other low-lying areas.

Davenport Fire Department and Davenport Police Department and many other agencies will also be on hand to offer other great preparedness tips and resources.
