We’re excited to share some great news!

The Davenport Fire Department received reaccreditation from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) on August 20 during a hearing in Rosemont, Illinois.

This is a big accomplishment for our Department and a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our members. The accreditation process takes a close look at how we serve our community, measure our performance, and continue to find ways to improve.

We’re proud of our team and grateful for the support of City leadership, our community partners, and the residents we serve.

At approximately 8:17 p.m. on August 3, 2026, the Davenport Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 1500 block of Harrison Street.

The first fire units arrived at 8:20 p.m. Firefighters entered the business through the front door and encountered light smoke inside the commercial space. As crews searched the building, they discovered an apartment attached to the rear of the structure. Further investigation determined the fire was in the rear apartment.

Firefighters entered the apartment, extinguished the fire, and searched for victims. Additional crews searched the three apartments above the commercial building.

Firefighters met with the residents, who confirmed that everyone was accounted for. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.

The Davenport Fire Department was assisted on scene by Medic EMS of Scott County, which stood by during the incident. MidAmerican Energy also responded to assist with utilities.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Fire Marshal's Office at 563-326-7906.

It's Bix 7 Weekend!

The Davenport Fire Department is excited to welcome thousands of runners and spectators to one of our community's favorite traditions!

As you enjoy the festivities, please help keep everyone safe:

- Stay clear of emergency vehicles and always yield if you see or hear lights and sirens.
- Stay hydrated—temperatures can rise quickly, whether you're running or cheering.
- Wear sunscreen, dress for the weather, and take breaks in the shade when needed.
- If you're participating in the race, know your limits and don't hesitate to seek medical assistance if you begin feeling unwell.
- Be aware of road closures and allow yourself extra travel time throughout the weekend.

Our firefighters and EMS personnel will be stationed throughout the race course and community, ready to respond if needed. We hope everyone has a fun, safe, and memorable Bix 7 weekend!

Good luck to all the runners, and thank you to the volunteers, organizers, and spectators who make this event such a special tradition in Davenport.

Congratulations to Brian Mohr and Ryan Stremlow on their promotions to Assistant Chief with the Davenport Fire Department!

Assistant Chief Mohr will lead the Operations Bureau, while Assistant Chief Stremlow will oversee Community Risk Reduction. Both will help the department strengthen emergency response, promote firefighter safety, public education, and community preparedness.

At approximately 4:57 p.m. on July 13, 2026, the Davenport Fire Department responded to a reported house fire in the 1800 block of West 8th Street. While firefighters were en route, dispatch received additional information that smoke was coming from the upper level of the home.

The first fire crews arrived on scene at 5:00 p.m. and entered the home to investigate. Firefighters encountered heavy heat and smoke on the second floor and quickly began attacking the fire. As crews worked to extinguish the flames, they discovered the fire had spread into the walls and ceiling. Firefighters spent additional time opening those areas to ensure all hidden fire was extinguished and to prevent it from rekindling. Crews remained on scene for several hours extinguishing hotspots and investigating the cause of the fire.

All residents safely evacuated the home before firefighters arrived, and everyone was accounted for. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.

The Davenport Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Medic EMS of Scott County, which provided emergency medical standby services. MidAmerican Energy responded to safely secure utility services to the home, and the American Red Cross is assisting the displaced homeowner.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Anyone with information about this incident should contact the Fire Marshal’s office at 563-326-7906.

On Wednesday, July 8th, 2026, at approximately 7:02 AM. Davenport Fire Department responded to the 6200 block of Deere Creek Lane for a structure fire.

The caller outside of the residence reported a fire in a residential structure unknown at that time if there were occupants. Responding units indicated heavy smoke showing prior to units arriving on scene. The first unit was on scene at approximately 7:08 AM and found a single-family residence with fire conditions
showing from the structure. Fire crews identified that there were no occupants within the structure. Crews found large fire involvement of the structure threatening a neighboring structure. Fire was contained to original structure, but the neighboring structure did suffer heat damage.

Davenport Fire Department was assisted by Medic Ambulance of Scott County, Mid-American Energy, Iowa American Water.

No injuries were reported as a result of this fire. The scene was brought under control in approximately 20 minutes, however crews remained on scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
