Today was so much fun! I have to thank a few people for making this a success. Monica Heller, for organizing this event..she goes above and beyond making this fun for all. Mayor Jessica Betzen-Miller, for making dirty sodas to support Project Lifesaver. David City Police Officers Luke, Kevin, Devin, Chris, and Tristan for working, taking calls,and helping in everyway possible. Officers Kevin, Luke, and myself had a great time taking whipped cream pies to the face, all to raise money for our K-9 Kira who will officially begin her intensive training soon! Today was a perfect example of community policing at its best! Picture of K9 Kira having a little sweet treat!

The David City Police Department is participating in the NDOT highway safety mobilization campaign called "MAKE IT CLICK."

From May 15, 2026, through May 31, 2026, we will be monitoring drivers and passengers to ensure that seatbelts are being used.

Please remember to buckle up everyone in your vehicle!

Statistics indicate that 70 out of 236 fatalities in 2025 involved individuals who were NOT wearing seatbelts. Moreover, research shows that a person is 45% more likely to survive a crash if they are wearing a seatbelt.

Nebraska ranks as the fifth worst state in the nation for seatbelt use, with a compliance rate of only 80.2%.

Let’s work together to change that by always wearing our seatbelts!

**ATTENTION CHICKEN OWNERS THIS MESSAGE IS FOR YOU**

We have been getting a lot of complaints about chickens so if you have them YOU MUST READ THIS!!!!

**THIS IS YOUR ONLY WARNING!**

The City Office has NOT given ANY chicken permits this year! Act NOW if you wish to keep your chickens!!

1. **OBTAIN A PERMIT**

You must acquire a permit BEFORE keeping any chickens and pay the associated fee. If you have not done this yet, please visit the City Office immediately. We will be checking residences for compliance and will confirm with the City Office whether you have obtained a permit. If you have not, you will be required to obtain one right away, or your chickens will be impounded.

2. **SECURE HOUSING REQUIRED**

Chickens CANNOT roam freely. They must be kept in a fenced yard or secure enclosure. If they are found outside of their designated area, they will be impounded.

3. **LIMITED NUMBER OF CHICKENS**

You are allowed to keep a maximum of 6 chickens, and NO roosters are permitted. Any roosters found will be impounded IMMEDIATLEY.

4. **POSSIBILITY OF FINES**

Violations of any of the above regulations may result in fines or citations being issued to you.

5. **IMPOUNDMENT OF FOWL**

If your chickens are impounded due to any of the above reasons, you will be responsible for all associated fees related to their impoundment.

6. **SUMMARY OF REQUIREMENTS**

Please ensure you have a permit for chickens, limit your flock to 6, keep them in a secured enclosure, refrain from having roosters, and maintain clean enclosures.
