Last week, Valley Clean Energy joined California Community Power and other community choice energy agencies to celebrate the Tumbleweed Long Duration Storage Project in Kern County.

This new eight-hour battery storage project is one of the first major projects of its kind in the United States. It is designed to store clean energy when it is abundant and make it available later in the day, supporting a cleaner, more reliable electric grid.

For VCE, this milestone is also a reminder of why local participation matters. Through CC Power, Yolo County has a seat at the table in helping advance clean energy infrastructure that benefits customers and supports California’s energy future.

We’re proud to be part of this important step forward.

Happy Father’s Day to the dads, grandpas, stepdads, caregivers, mentors, and father figures who show up for their families and communities every day.

Thanks for the rides, the advice, the bad jokes, and the “don’t touch the thermostat” reminders.

Tomorrow is the longest day of the year ☀️

Which means sunset is basically refusing to leave.

Take advantage of the extra daylight: eat dinner outside, walk the dog twice, ignore your indoor chores a little longer, and let the sun handle the lighting bill for once.

Summer officially starts tomorrow 😎

Today we recognize Juneteenth — a celebration of freedom, resilience, history, and community.

It’s also an opportunity to reflect on the importance of continuing to build communities where everyone has the opportunity to be heard, included, and supported.

Valley Clean Energy is excited for the 17th Annual California Climate and Energy Collaborative Forum in Los Angeles on June 24–25.

This statewide event brings together local government staff, elected officials, community organizations, and climate and energy practitioners from across California to share ideas, learn from each other, and explore practical solutions for a changing climate.

This year’s theme, “Grounded in People, Guided by Possibility,” feels especially relevant to the work ahead. Here in Yolo County, just like communities across California, people are facing rising costs and growing climate impacts. Energy solutions need to be practical, affordable, accessible, and rooted in real community needs.

We’re looking forward to connecting with partners from across the state and bringing back ideas that can help support cleaner, more resilient communities here at home.

We're proud to share a major clean energy milestone for California.

A new eight-hour battery storage project is now operating in Kern County, and Valley Clean Energy is proud to be part of it through California Community Power.

Most battery storage projects discharge power for about four hours. This project can discharge for up to eight hours, helping store clean energy during the day and make it available later, when customers need it most.

CCAs in California continue to drive innovation. The Tumbleweed Energy Storage Project is being described as the first major utility scale eight hour lithium-ion battery storage project in the U.S. VCE is joining other community choice energy agencies through CC Power to help bring this clean energy storage project online for California.

It’s an important step toward a cleaner, more reliable electric grid and another example of how local power providers are helping move California forward.
