Yolo County’s clean-energy future is being shaped by strong women leaders.
Reflecting on Women’s Equality Day, we recognize the women serving on VCE’s Board of Directors:
⚡ Jesse Loren, VCE Board Chair and Winters City Councilmember
⚡ Tania Garcia-Cadena, VCE Board Vice Chair and Woodland City Councilmember
⚡ Sheila Allen, representing Yolo County
⚡ Donna Neville, representing the City of Davis

Their leadership helps ensure that important energy decisions reflect the needs, priorities, and perspectives of the communities VCE serves.

They also reflect a much larger story across Yolo County. In public-facing roles and behind the scenes, women are leading organizations, supporting families, strengthening neighborhoods, building businesses, and shaping what comes next.

Women’s Equality Day is a chance to celebrate those contributions and reflect something we value here in Yolo County: when all of our leaders and voices work together, our communities are better for it.

The Yolo County sun would like to update its résumé.
Current responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
🍅 Ripening tomatoes
🌻 Growing sunflowers
🍇 Sweetening grapes
😅 Making everyone search for shade
⚡ Helping generate electricity for VCE customers

At the Putah Creek Solar Farm near Winters, solar panels capture local sunshine while battery storage saves some of that energy for later in the day.

Honestly, the sun might be making the rest of us look bad.
But really, it’s making us look pretty sunny.

Your appliances have a question: Are you willing to help them save you money? ⚡
With VCE’s Hourly Flex Pricing pilot, qualifying customers can see tomorrow’s electricity prices a day ahead and look for lower-priced times to handle everyday household tasks.

That means your:
🚗 EV can wait for a better time to charge
🍽️ Dishwasher can take a later shift
🧺 Washing machine can tackle laundry when prices are lower
🔌 Smart devices can help move flexible energy use automatically

The chores may not become fun exactly.
But they can feel a little better when they cost less.

Participants continue paying their standard rates. If Hourly Flex Pricing would have saved you money, you receive a credit for the difference. If not, you do not pay more.

Your appliances are flexible. Tomorrow’s prices will tell them when to get to work.

What’s your Yolo County summer energy personality?

🐦 The Early Bird
Runs the dishwasher, laundry, or other appliances during lower-priced hours. The savings from a single load may be small, but regularly shifting flexible energy use can add up depending on your appliances, usage, and rate plan.

🪟 The Shade Strategist
Closes curtains or blinds before direct sunlight heats the room. Blocking afternoon sun can reduce heat entering the home and may lessen the need for air conditioning, especially in sunny or west-facing rooms.

🌀 The Fan Club President
Uses a fan for personal comfort and raises the thermostat a degree or two. ENERGY STAR says using a ceiling fan while raising the thermostat by two degrees can reduce air-conditioning costs by up to 14%.

🌙 The Night Owl
Moves cooking, charging, or appliance use away from higher-priced hours. The impact depends on how much energy is shifted and the difference between peak and off-peak prices under your rate plan.

🌡️ The Smart Scheduler
Programs the thermostat around the household’s actual routine. The U.S. Department of Energy says appropriate thermostat setbacks can save up to approximately 10% annually on heating and cooling.

Which one sounds most like you?
Actual savings will depend on your home, equipment, habits, weather, and rate plan.

Yolo County farmers have always known how to work with changing conditions. Now they are helping California rethink how farms use electricity, too.

VCE launched California’s first community choice aggregation dynamic-pricing pilot right here in our region, working with local agricultural customers to explore whether irrigation and other flexible energy use could be shifted to lower-cost hours.

That early work helped demonstrate how hourly pricing could support farms, reduce strain on the electric grid, and make better use of available clean energy.
Now VCE is inviting more eligible agricultural customers to participate.

Hourly Flex Pricing allows participants to view electricity prices in advance and schedule irrigation pumping or other flexible operations during lower-cost hours when practical. During the pilot, participants will not pay more than they would have on their standard rate.

Yolo County agriculture helped pioneer this approach. Your operation can help lead its next chapter.
