UC Davis Fire Department

UC Davis Fire Department The UC Davis Fire Department’s Mission is to protect and enhance the safety and well-being of our community with pride and excellence.

Our commitment to students, faculty and staff is evident in the comprehensive variety of programs and services we deliver:

Following the highest standards in life safety, our organization delivers all-hazard emergency response to the campus and neighboring communities, including response to medical emergencies, fires, hazardous materials releases, and natural disasters. We engage in strategic com

munity interactions with students, faculty and staff to reduce risk, prevent injuries, and help prepare for emergencies. Providing outreach through a number of annual events such as Fire Day on the Quad and Picnic Day are examples of the ways we try to mitigate risks through public education. Our nationally-recognized Student Resident Firefighter Program weaves our organization into the fabric of the University. The program teaches firefighting skills to a select group of qualified students who live and work at the campus fire station while pursuing their four year degrees. Student firefighters receive hands-on training and professional experience in all aspects of fire and emergency services. Participation improves the students’ career opportunities upon graduation, should they choose to continue in the profession. UC Davis is the lead agency for Yolo County’s Multi-Agency Hazardous Materials Response Team whose role is to eliminate the immediate threat of exposure from the release of biological, chemical or nuclear agents. By participating in this cooperative effort, the cost of response is shared, allowing the university and all residents of the county to receive the highest quality service at a reasonable cost. With our institution’s many research and educational laboratories, this program is essential to the well-being of the campus community and the protection of its critical infrastructure.

Now that summer is here and things are slowing down, we decided to take a closer look at our campus fire hydrants. Take a quick scroll break and see how we ranked fire several fire hydrants around campus.

P.S. There’s a surprise at the end ✨🚒

Aggies Unite!

Fire Chief Nate Hartinger recently attended a graduation ceremony in San Francisco celebrating Blythe Clark on their completion of the Community Paramedic Cohort 8 program.

Blythe completed an extensive 6-week program with SFFD's Community Paramedic Program — the only one of its kind in the state of California. Blythe is a part of our Health 34 program, where she serves as a provider helping answer the call for our campus community in times of need.

As a fun bonus, prior to the ceremony, Chief Hartinger ran into fellow UC Davis alumnus (Class of 2003) and former Student Resident Firefighter Phillip Roliz, who now serves as a Public Information Officer with the San Francisco Fire Department. Before an interview, the two took a moment to reminisce about their Aggie days at Fire Station 34, where they were students together just beginning their journey in the fire service.
