The influx of rain has flooded some streets in town. Don't drive through flooded areas or standing water. Only six inches of water can reach the bottoms of most passenger cars, causing loss of control and possible stalling as water enters the exhaust. Water can hide washed-out roadbeds, sharp debris, open maintenance holes and downed power lines.

If you encounter a flooded road:

1) Turn around and find an alternate route.
2) Never drive around barricades—they are placed there by officials because the road ahead is unsafe or structurally compromised.
3) Abandon your vehicle immediately if your car stalls in rising water and move to higher ground.

If you need to report debris that is blocking roads, call dispatch at 530-747-5400. Be safe out there!

Construction work for the new Walnut Park Library is taking place on Lillard Drive near Farragut Circle over the next two weeks. Work hours are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (shortened hours because of proximity to schools).

There is a small trench in the street for electrical work. Please expect a lane shift on the north side of Lillard Drive heading westbound. Bike lanes are closed on both sides of the street, and “Share the Road” signs are in place. Cyclists and pedestrians are encouraged to use nearby multi-use paths off Farragut, Chateau and Danbury when possible. Nearby residents, Unitrans and school administrators have been notified regarding anticipated impacts, traffic control measures and construction activities.

Please use caution when traveling in the area and follow posted signage and crew directions. Thank you for your patience!

The City of Davis and the UC Davis Department of Design invite the community to attend the Seventh Annual Bicycle Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event will begin on G Street in front of Temple Coffee Roasters. Clues will be distributed promptly at 10:30 a.m.

The event is free and open to the public. Participants of all ages are welcome to join using bicycles or scooters.

This year’s theme, “Music,” takes participants on a fun-filled ride through Davis as they solve clues and complete challenges to help “The Freewheelers” get their sound back together. Along the way, riders will explore the community, discover local landmarks and enjoy a creative, family-friendly adventure. Following the scavenger hunt, prizes will be awarded on closed portion of G Street for the fastest families and fastest racers.

Since launching in 2017, the City of Davis Active Transportation Program and students from the UC Davis Department of Design have partnered to create interactive bicycle scavenger hunts that encourage residents to explore Davis in a fun and educational way. Previous themes have included “Cycle-delic” (2017), “Branching Out” (2019), “Pedal Playoffs” (2023) and “Creature Quest” (2025).

The City would like to thank the following businesses for generously donating prizes for this year’s event: Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District, ASUCD Bike Barn, Cloud Forest Cafe, Ike’s Sandwiches, Watermelon Music, ASUCD Coffee House, Newsbeat, The Basement Gallery, Redwood Barn Nursery, Armadillo Music, Woodstock’s Pizza, Akiba HQ, Yerba Madre and Safeway.

Registration is available online through Eventbrite. Staff contact: Cory Frost at [email protected], 530-747-5846.
