The Dawson Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the wife of Cuthbert Fire Chief Gregory Fairbanks, Jennifer Fairbanks, to his brother, Sheriff Eddie Fairbanks, to his entire family, the Cuthbert Fire Department, and the City of Cuthbert.

Chief Fairbanks was far more than a public servant. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a brother, a leader, and a faithful servant of God whose life reflected service, commitment, and compassion for others. His passing leaves a tremendous void in the hearts of Jennifer and his family, the firefighters who served under his leadership, and the community he faithfully protected.

To us, Chief Fairbanks was a brother in kind, united with all first responders through a shared commitment to protect, serve, sacrifice, and answer the call when others are in need.

Rest easy, Chief.

Your watch has ended, but your legacy remains. The men and women who served under you, and all those who proudly wear the Maltese Cross, will carry your fight forward. Your service, leadership, faith, and devotion will never be forgotten.

With honor, respect, and heartfelt sympathy,

Dawson Police Department

The Dawson Police Department is pleased to announce the return of our Car Care Program, a community engagement initiative designed to promote safer vehicles, voluntary compliance, and positive interaction between our officers and the citizens we serve.

When an officer encounters a motorist with a qualifying minor defective equipment violation, such as a malfunctioning headlight, taillight, brake light, turn signal, tag light, windshield wiper, or other eligible equipment concern, the officer may issue a written warning instead of a citation when circumstances allow.

Along with the warning, the motorist may receive a Car Care coupon that can be presented to a participating local merchant for a discount or other assistance toward correcting the specific equipment violation.

Current participating merchants include:

• Fosters Easy Pay
• MAPS
• NAPA Auto Parts
• Marvin's Muffler and Auto
• Chavez Auto

The discount applies only to the equipment violation identified on the written warning, and the written warning must accompany the Car Care coupon when presented to the participating merchant.

The Car Care Program is intended to give motorists a reasonable opportunity to correct minor equipment problems while helping reduce the financial burden associated with needed repairs.

This program does not mean officers will allow an unsafe vehicle to remain on the roadway. If a vehicle presents a danger to the driver, passengers, or the public, the officer will take the appropriate action necessary to address the hazard and may issue a citation when warranted.

Our goal is not simply to identify a problem. Our goal is to help motorists correct the problem whenever it can be done safely and responsibly.

The Dawson Police Department remains committed to combining professional traffic enforcement with education, assistance, and community partnership.

Safer Vehicles. Safer Roads. Stronger Community.

🇺🇸 LINE OF DUTY DEATH

Officer Chris Fisher
Warm Springs Police Department
Warm Springs, Georgia

END OF WATCH: SEPTEMBER 1, 2026

The United States Honor Flag and The Honor Network mourn the line-of-duty death of Officer Chris Fisher of the Warm Springs Police Department, who was shot and killed Tuesday night in Warm Springs, Georgia.

Officer Fisher was killed shortly before midnight on September 1, 2026. His death has prompted a massive law enforcement response and statewide Blue Alert as authorities search for the suspect wanted in connection with his murder.

Officer Fisher joined the Warm Springs Police Department in May 2026 and was promoted in July. His career in law enforcement also included service with the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, and Heard County Sheriff’s Office.

A statewide manhunt remains underway for 23-year-old Jimmie Lee Steverson, who authorities have identified as the suspect in Officer Fisher’s death. He is considered armed and dangerous. Members of the public should not approach him and should immediately contact 911 if he is seen.

Today, we remember Officer Chris Fisher not for the violence that took his life, but for the uniform he wore, the communities he served, and the oath he upheld.

We extend our deepest condolences to Officer Fisher’s family, friends, fellow officers, the Warm Springs Police Department, and the entire Meriwether County law enforcement community.

May those who served beside him carry forward his memory, and may his family know that a grateful nation remembers his service and sacrifice.
