Wednesday night members learned different techniques on deploying hose lines. Efficient hose deployment allows firefighters to apply water to extinguish the fire faster which is essential when trying to control the fire.
While taking a break some of members decided to show off the basketball skills!

Yesterday, Dawson fire assisted the Illiopolis Fire Department with a structure fire. All occupants and pets had exited the residence safely. Crews worked several hours extinguishing the fire. Also assisted were mutual aid departments, including Niantic Fire Department, Buffalo Fire Department, Mechanicsburg Fire Department, LifeStar Ambulance, and the Sangamon County Sheriff's Department.

Today, Dawson members did annual hose testing on E1401 and S1402. Following NFPA standards, this annual procedure involves pressurizing the hose to a higher-than-normal pressure to detect defects and confirm the hose performs as designed, preventing potential harm to users and ensuring it can deliver water effectively when needed
After getting all the hose checked, we all sat down together and watched football and a great meal cooked by Chef/Chief Josh Nibbe.

🚜🔥 Harvest Season Fire Safety 🔥🚜

As fields dry out, the risk of fire increases. Protect your equipment, your crop, and yourself by following these safety tips:

Machine Maintenance & Prevention
✅ Blow off chaff, leaves & debris daily to reduce fuel buildup
✅ Lubricate bearings & chains to prevent overheating
✅ Inspect wiring & connections for damage
✅ Check tires for cracks or wear

On-Field Safety
🔥 Carry at least two fire extinguishers—one in the cab & one accessible from the ground
📞 Have a plan to call 911 immediately if a fire starts—don’t delay
🚜 Keep a tractor with a disk in a safe location, ready to help stop a spreading fire

Dawson Fire dept hosted joint training with Buffalo Fire and Mechanicsburg Fire dept. Members learned about several topics, including but not limited to cardiac emergencies, circulatory pathways, EKGs, and meds in the prehospital setting.
We want to give a huge "Thank you" to Bob Kayma for coming to Dawson to teach members of the departments so we can better serve the community.
Training provides knowledge to effectively manage patients and improve patient outcomes.
