24% of PA women miss a mammogram yearly, 38 PA women diagnosed with breast cancer daily, 90% of women survive at least 5 years with early diagnosis

Mother’s Day is a great time to remind Mom and all the women in your life about the importance of annual mammograms.

While these low-dose x-rays are critical to a lifesaving early diagnosis of breast cancer, one in four Pennsylvania women fail to get a mammogram each year.

If you are over the age of 55 and looking to refresh your driving skills, I encourage you to join me at a Seniors for Safe Driving Seminar on Friday, May 8, from 1-5 p.m. at the Connellsville Senior Center, 100 E. Fayette St., Connellsville.

This is an opportunity for older drivers to boost your safety on the road while also earning a discount of at least 5% on your auto insurance premium.

During the seminar, a safe driving instructor will discuss communicating with drivers, risk management, airbags, sharing the road, road signs, signals, pavement markings and more.

It’s part of the federal Title V Maternal and Child Health Services Block Grant, managed in Pennsylvania by the Department of Health. It requires a comprehensive needs assessment every five years to identify key health priorities.

Women Veterans Invited to Submit Their Stories of Service

Women who served in the armed forces are encouraged to register by May 8 for a state Capitol ceremony honoring their service. The 4th annual Women Veterans Day Commemoration will be held on Wednesday, June 10.

Women veterans across the commonwealth are invited to submit entries for a display featuring each participant’s likeness alongside a personal reflection on “What Service Means to Me.”
