Burn Ban as of October 07, 2022
Commissioners reinstated Navarro County’s burn ban at their regular meeting Friday. The decision to reinstate the burn ban was necessary because drought conditions are returning after a brief respite.

During the October 5th regular city council meeting, the Dawson City Council approved and adopted Ordinance 2021-05 which effectively extends the west boundary along State Highway 31 to the Navarro/Hill County line. This only covers the right-of-way of State Highway 31 and not any private property. The Dawson Police Department now has the ability to respond to traffic accidents and other calls for service within this area. The Dawson Police Department will begin the enforcement of traffic laws within this newly annexed area effective immediately. The Dawson Municipal Court will handle citations issued by Police Officers of the Dawson Police Department. Documentation will be forwarded to Navarro County to request the relocation of the city limits sign.

On Tuesday, August 10th, 2021, at approximately 8:20 PM, Chief Hoffman conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle near the 20800-block of West State Highway 31 for a vehicle traffic violation. During his interaction with the occupants of the vehicle, Chief Hoffman established probable cause to conduct a search of the vehicle and seized approximately 5.2 liters of Promethazine Hydrochloride and approximately half a liter of Valproic Acid in their original laboratory/manufacturer containers that are provided directly to pharmacies and not the public. One male was arrested and charged with Possession of Dangerous Drugs.

With the assistance of the Navarro County Sheriff's Office, we have been able to establish a possible link to a slew of pharmacy robberies in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The Dawson Police Department is working closely with the Fort Worth Police Department in these cases.

Promethazine Hydrochloride is commonly associated in the manufacturing of "lean", also known as "purple drank".

The Dawson Police Department would like to thank the Navarro County Sheriff's Office, specifically Sergeant Thurston, Deputy Farmer and Telecommunicator Craig for their assistance with this case.

We are immensely grateful for this donation by the Argyle Police Department. This vehicle will further us in our mission to provide quality service and protection for our citizens. Thank you Chief Jackson for your generosity!

As an agency, we understand that no police department can do it alone. Often we have to lean on one another to succeed.

It was in this spirit that we donated a vehicle earlier today to a fellow Texas police department who was in need of it to properly serve their community.
