🚨🚧Street Sealcoating🚧🚨

Sealcoating services will be in town on Monday, June 8th, beginning at 8 am. The golf course will be the starting point and activities will continue throughout town all day. Please reference the below map for understanding which streets will be completed (highlighted in yellow; zoom in for a really good visual). NO PARKING will be allowed on the streets during this project.

Apologies for another last-minute notice. We just received verification of these services this morning, and it was essential to get this project scheduled in a timely manner, otherwise we may have missed out on services for this year. This is expected to increase the life expectancy of our streets by 7-10 years and we will continue investing in the beautiful streets we have!!

With more e-bikes, scooters, and other motorized devices out and about across town, a major concern we’re seeing is making sure everyone—especially our kids—stays safe.

One of the biggest issues our officers and residents witness is kids riding electric scooters without helmets. By law, all kids under the age of 18 on an electric scooter MUST have a helmet on. It’s literally the law, please obey it. A simple helmet can make a life-saving difference in the event of an accident.

Each type of device comes with different rules for speed, age, helmets, and where you can ride. Taking the time to understand these differences can prevent accidents and protect the people who matter most.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Parents— It starts with you. Please talk with your kids about:
• Wearing a helmet during EVERY ride
• Following traffic laws
• Riding in the same direction as traffic
• Staying visible, especially at night

🚦 Riders of all ages:
• Yield at intersections
• Use lights and reflectors after dark
• Stay alert and avoid distractions

A little awareness goes a long way in keeping our streets safe for everyone. Thank you for your attention to this matter and we hope to see a difference!

🚨Public Service Announcement🚨

We will be drone spraying this morning in an effort to mitigate emerald ash borer disease. Residents should experience zero interruptions and residual treatment should be minimal. Refer to this week’s edition of the Dawson Sentinel for more information.

Donations are still welcome and appreciated! Resurfacing is completed, our pool vacuum has been replaced, and the upgraded pool heater has been ordered. Rigorous cleaning and post-installation treatment activities have been taking place on the pool floor over the past 3 weeks. We are patiently waiting for the delivery and installation of the new heater, but our old heater will likely be needed for a few weeks. Essentially, we needed to utilize reserve funds to complete all of these projects; previous savings for a heater and vacuum needed to be re-allocated to resurfacing costs, but an updated pool heater remained a priority. Unfortunately, this does set us back financially and we will need to continue saving for improvements on an annual basis. Water features and slides continue to approach their life expectancy. The pool is meant for summer recreation and fun for everyone, and we always want to provide that for our community. It requires a lot of resources to serve everyone well, and we will continue to put our best foot forward for all pool activities!!

🛟⛱️COMMUNITY SUPPORT NEEDED⛱️🛟

The City of Dawson is seeking community support for unexpected (but necessary) pool repairs. A surprise floor resurfacing project has caused prior capital outlay savings (designated for a new heater and other upgrades) to be used on floor repair costs.

Any level of donation would be appreciated, and we will continue to prioritize saving for future upgrades/repairs to water features, slides, diving board, mechanical equipment, etc. Donations can be dropped off or mailed to the City Office.

We extend a special thank you to the businesses and townships who have already contributed (FM Bank, Riverside Township, Greater Community Credit Union, Farmers Mutual Telephone, and Hamlin Township).
